“A fragment of a prayer that never reached its destination, merely settling and rotting in a corner of the silent ceiling.”
Hey, Homiie, what’s up... I’m Humansleep. This time, I want to share my work with the Alien Art Hive community. Here, I’ll also be sharing the creative process—including both the final images and the sketches—for the pieces I’ll be working on.
The Rotten Prayers
The Rotten Prayers: “A fragment of a prayer that never reached its destination, merely settling and rotting in a corner of the silent ceiling.”
The Rotten Prayers | tells the story of a sincere outpouring of the heart—an expression of deep suffering, love, sorrow, anger, disappointment, and, ultimately, a servant’s surrender to the Creator—through the prayers he once offered repeatedly, full of hope, amid weathered walls and the silence of the night, awaiting an answer.
However, that prayer never truly reached its intended destination. It simply drifted aimlessly through the air, and little by little, each sentence in the prayer became overgrown with mold, covered in dust, and cracked, until its meaning grew faint. Then, the prayer was abandoned and left to rot in a corner of the sky—a silent sky—along with the spiderwebs there.
Time kept passing, while he remained there—waiting for something that might never come. Day after day went by, and the voice that once offered up that prayer gradually grew fainter. For he was too tired to wait for an answer to the hope he had once expressed so fervently; little by little, fragments of that prayer began to lose their shape.
However... he continued to pray, though no longer with the same conviction. He no longer hoped for an answer. He no longer believed that every word he had ever spoken would reach its intended destination.
All that remains is habit. A phrase that is repeated over and over, even though the heart that once spoke it no longer recognizes its meaning.
Perhaps that prayer never truly disappeared. Perhaps it was just delayed. Or perhaps, from the very beginning, there was never going to be an answer that would come to him.
And the longer that confession hung there, the more he forgot to whom it was actually addressed. Until finally, it wasn’t just that part of the prayer that had withered away, but also the hope that had once been contained within it.
And in the end... he continued to pray throughout his life, always pouring out his feelings to the Creator. However... he no longer placed any hope in his prayers.
