One of the advantages of sewing is that it could save you some money when sewing something for yourself or as a gift for someone else. I have 3 year old twin cousins, both boys, and last year for their birthday I decided to make them backpacks. I've never made backpacks before and wasn't sure of the size. I found a tutorial for toddler backpacks that was quick and easy enough to follow called, Toddler Backpack "Winging it" Tutorial.

I had a piece of denim fabric and some upholstery fabric and decided to go for a jeans look for the backpacks. So instead of having just one pocket, I cut and sewed jeans pockets for the front of the backpacks and used the upholstery fabric as contrasting fabric for the flap and the straps.

I added a jeans button to finish off the look.

It's amazing what you can do with some fabric and a sewing machine 馃槉.
