So this is the latest cake I have made - a Ferrari for someone's 30th birthday. You never know, maybe when I become a whale on here and make lots of money I could buy my own one day!
The finished cake
Here I am just going to give you the basic rundown of how I put this one together - but it can work on any car cake being put together.
The first stage was to prepare the board that the cake would eventually sit on. This was a standard 12mm cake drum covered in black fondant. There is also a smaller cake drum which would sit underneath the car in order for it to look like the car is freestanding. Once covered in fondant, I put edible glue on the larger one and covered it in poppy seeds to replicate a road.

I then prepared the cake card that the cake would sit on. Drawing the base shape of the car, I then used a craft knife to cut it out.
Preparing the cake card
Next stage was to bake the cakes. The customer wanted a chocolate sponge with chocolate buttercream. Once the cakes were cooked and cooled, I stacked them filling each layer with chocolate buttercream. From here I carved the basic shape I needed, then covered it and shaped it a bit further with chocolate buttercream.
Stacking, filling, shaping and covering
Once I was happy with this shape I covered it in red fondant and began on adding all the details. From the seats, to headlights, logos, steering wheel, wind screen... it goes on.
Adding all the details it starts to come together
Final detailing included the personalised number plate, wing mirrors lastly ribbon and lettering on the cake board.
