Long before putting on my cap and gown, and receiving the title that accredited me as a TEACHER OF SPECIAL EDUCATION, MENTAL RETARDATION MENTION, definitely the vocation was already present in me.
I remember clearly that when I left high school I had to choose or at least take into account 3 careers to study, if I had them, totally and completely different, these were: dentistry, education mentioning English and special education, as you will see I achieved one of them.
If I go back to the past, when I was in the second semester of my career, I visited for the first time a school for children with special educational needs, the enrollment that they attended there were between 0 and 6 years old, when I left that school, I came home telling my mom that I could not continue in my career, I had a beautiful boy, 4 years old, with white skin and blue eyes, down syndrome and a quite pronounced hydrocephalus, I did not feel pity, in my opinion, I think that is bad, but I told myself that I could not stand my day to day seeing those cases.
The next day I did not go to the university, but when I missed the content that was given there and when I thought about the affection and affection so expressive and sincere that this beautiful child gave me without even knowing me, I realized that I wanted to be part of the people who could help these children with special conditions.
And so it was, a few years later I received my degree.
I must emphasize that I began to practice the career before graduating, when I was just in college in the sixth semester, because at that time there was a lack of specialist teachers in this area, that was specifically on October 22, 2007, from that day until today there have been countless experiences in this guild.
From getting to love each of my students, to include them in various activities.
I have also spread information and what is involved in special education and people with disabilities, their duties and rights, myths and realities, the laws that protect them and above all I have clarified that the conditions are not a disease, so they should not see it that way, because although it is hard to believe, at this stage of life, with so much technology on the street is still unaware of this issue.
I have also gone through some rough times, because if there is something that the university did not teach me, it was how to do when one of my students leaves this earthly plane, which unfortunately in this area is seen a lot.
I have also wanted to teach my family and my children the value that a person with a disability has, they are not less than us, we are not more than them, we just have to respect their different condition.
