SHAPING THE WORLD THROUGH THESE VALUABLE CHARACTER TRAITS
Hello hivers, hope the month of November is going as planned and if not, hope we are living up to each day as it comes.
It's another on hive and as usual, the #hivenaijaweekly prompt is out with thought provoking questions that triggers our innermost minds. I am definitely discussing the second topic on the three traits I would wish for everyone on earth and the world to have. Going by the activities going on in the world today, we see that negativity has taken over positivity, the bad has overridden the good. So, if I would have a wish it will be for positive and good characters to be restored back in our communities. Before we can fix a nation or the world, we have to first fix up ourselves as humans with good characteristics as this would foster oneness and unity.
In view of all that is said what are the three traits I would want humans to possess that would benefit the nation. These would be
- honesty
- responsibility
- integrity
HONESTY
With the way the world is going at the moment, one valuable traits I would wish for everyone in the world to have is 'HONESTY'. If only everybody can be honesty with each other, I believe the world would be a better place for all of us. There are lots and lots of dishonesty and lies going on around. By being honest means that the person is truthful, genuine in all areas and not faking it and can be trusted even in difficult situations. But its had to find that nowadays, even when you try to be truthful, you get scared that it might not go well with your neighbor or colleague. For instance, one time we were given an assignment to make a research on a question and give feedback and su MIT on a specific date. As group members, we fixed time for meetings so that we can prepare and meet up with the date but as usual some people failled to attend and at the end we couldn't meet up. When the lecturer questioned us, those that dragged us back had to lie to cover up and ask for an extension and the lecturer agreed. At this point, we that were present and ready to do and be our best was sabotaged by those that are dishonest and cunny but for the sake of peace to reign and so as not to fail, we had to go ahead with the plan.
So, if all can be honest, things can go differently. Dishonest has led to many marriages failing, partners lying about paternity or maternity of their child, lies about traffic, lateness and so many more.
RESPONSIBLE
Another trait I find lacking especially in this 21st century or rather 'Gen Z' Era is lack of responsibility. I see responsibility as a trait that will go a long way to shaping the world. Everyone should be ready to take responsibility for their actions. Irresponsibility is now the height of it, I made an observation recently in music videos and I have come to realize that the guys or the musicians that actually make these videos dress decently but reverse is the case for the ladies. A guy will dress properly wearing a complete suit but the dancer or the vixen will wear only bikini or bra and pants. If only people can be responsible by being committed to whatever and wherever they find themselves, things would be perfect.
INTEGRITY
In terms of integrity, 60% of people lack this personal or rather character traits. Especially those in government parastatals its like the sold it to the devil or something, because they care less about the welfare of those that voted them in power. Ever since we have been complaining about bad roads in the country, till now no fast action has been carried out to curtail that, rather we the masses have to manage and spend double the time of regular traveling. But they fly their private jets around. Integrity is for one to have a moral conduct and adhere by it, to do things accordingly and not cunningly. To do our jobs to the best of our ability rather than cut corners. Integrity is a great virtue and only few still has it, others have been corrupted or biased.
Finally, it is not an easy feat to make the world a better place because we human beings are distinctive, everyone with his or her character, good or bad. I believe moral upbringing is very pertinent in what an adult human will become. So, these values are very necessary in making the world a better place.
