I'm born in Borneo and raised in Kadazandusun norm. Growing in kampung (village) life Style, and surrounded by many adat and practicing some traditional believe was influence the way I'm thinking.
In generally, my culture full with respect and tolerance with other people. During my time, respect to the older then you are must. When you talk, passing by them, behave in front
then and many more. You need to do it very polite, when you talk with the older, you can't call his/her name. You should use his/her tittle such as aunty, uncle, bro and sis. When you passing by people in the middle, you should bow down your body as sign of respect to the older or guess.
So the consequences is, your still can see on the driver Behavior on road. Even we already in moden era and not too many people still practicing this norm, but there are pieces of people still have the older values.
For example, when you at road junction, there still curtains people will give you chance to go first. And it's
very rare to see this kind of people. And that will make you very great full with your home town local value.
In borneo there still many road bridge For single line, and interestingly there signal light to manage the car to crossing the bridge. It depand on how tolerance the driver among to the bridge user. You can see the tolerance value in community especially in Tampaluri town. There is long bridge with single line in Tampaluri, just imagine how the community can use it without any problem. That is the indecator for the community tolerance level.
Another thing about beautifulness of Orang Sabah is, when they passing each other.. Either passing on the road, in the mall or tamu.. They will always greeting one another by saying bah, palan-palan, limpas dulu and many more.
