My Very Very Belated Birthday Celebration with My Whole Entire Family in Hometown!
This was a very belated birthday post of my birthday in September that I realized I did not post about.
It was rare that for my birthday this year I got to celebrate with my original family in Kuching, Sarawak .
My mum booked a room in a restaurant that had karaoke in the room. I am trying my best to recall the name of the restaurant but I just could not. Hahaha! They ordered lots os specialties of this restaurant for the occasion.
The dishes that night was fantabulous! Though I was feeling extra nauseous that night, I tried my best to enjoy them as much as I could.
Garlic fried midin
This is a special fern that can only be grown in Sarawak. Hence we Sarawakians always love it and will alwqys order it whenever we are in Sarawak. There are maby ways of cooking it, sometimes with red wine, sometimes with belacan which is our shrimp paste, sometimes as part of a salad. My parents ordered it to be stir-fried with garlic. It was very good and I was so glad I got to eat it this round back.
Signature tofu with minced meat
This is a common dish to order in a Chinese restaurant but not every restaurant can execute this dish well. This one by this restaurant was excellent. It was so good that we can easily gobble down many mouthfuls of rice with it. My boys loved it too.
Fried bittergourd coated with salted egg
A very special dish that may not be found elsewhere, this is fried bittergourd coated with salted egg then deep fried. You cannot taste the bittergourd's bitterness at all but all can be tasted is the tasty flour that goes super well with the bittergourd. This was really really amazing!
Fried rice
My parents ordered this thinking of the younger children but I ended up enjoying it so much. This was before I cut carbs hahaha. It was so tasty with the bits of cured sausages.
Steamed Chicken with a very Special Dipping Sauce
The chicken was tender and succulent. Wait till you dip it in the dipping sauce that is green but so appetizing. I couldn't help but scooping a lot of the dipping sauce into my plate hahaha. It just elevated the dish to another level.
Mantou with Pork Belly
In some Chinese restaurants, they like to serve mantou (which is a type of chinese bun) with meat like pork belly with rich gravy. This was one of those and really the gravy made us non stop digging in. It was savory sweet so it is a right combination!
Mixed vegetables with fried kailan strips
The special part of this dish has to be the fried kailan strips. They are deep fried, so interesting. The rest of the kailan are stir fried to be on the side.
The Strawberry Shortcake birthday cake!
This cake was not by the restaurant but ordered by my 2 sisters. This is one of the more hyped fresh cream cakes in Kuching now. I got it for a friend before and my sister's son got it for his birthday before too. They wanted to let me try and I also was very curious and eager about it.
It is not cheap but it is so worth it! It is beautifully crafted layer by layer with the lightest and smoothest fresh cream I have ever tasted with very fresh nice strawberrries. I absolutely enjoyed it!!!!!
Thank you family for celebrating my 37th birthday for me. Ever since I left home to Kuala Lumpure to study, there were not many chances my birthday coincide with me being back home with my parents and siblings so I truly appreciate this opportunity.
