I was bringing my son's uniform shorts to be fixed at the tailor and while I was waiting for it to be done, I wandered a bit further to this usual roadside stall selling Apam Balik.

So what is Apam Balik?

Apam balik is actually a Chinese pancake made with flour and topped with some peanut crumbles and corn, drizzled with a bit of condensed milk. So it has a great combination of sweet and savory and some crunches too. It is made on these small hot plates.

Apam balik (lit. 'turnover pancake'),[3] also known as terang bulan (lit. 'moonlight'), martabak manis (lit. 'sweet martabak'), peanut pancake or mànjiānguǒ (Chinese: 曼煎粿), is a sweet dessert originating in Chinese cuisine which now consists of many varieties at specialist roadside stalls or restaurants throughout Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.[4] It can also be found in Hong Kong as (Chinese: 冷糕) and Taiwan as (Chinese: 麥仔煎).

We can actually chose whether we like it thin like this that I am showing you or the thicker type. We can also customise our choice to have more creamy corn with an additional RM0.50 per piece. The usual thin slice is RM1 per piece and if we opt for the thicker texture type, it is RM2.

I love the thinner type like this and don't quite like the other type so I chose this. The hawker will keep making lots and lots of it. They need to flip it over once it's done to avoid it from getting burnt.

Here are the toppings for it. Some other stalls may have some fancy toppings but I like it best this way, traditional and simple.

Look, I bought 5 pieces and I gobbled all down in the car hehe! Too delicious. It was still warm and crispy so I did not want to wait any longer to enjoy them, in case they turn soggy.
