I was thinking about today's prompt on whether to write a fiction or story about it when an old experience came to my mind.
I was a Biotechnology student and in my foundation year, I learnt the dissection of rats and frogs. I was fearless back then, thinking what can be scary about dissecting animals. It was part of learning the animal anatomy.
We were asked to purchase the rats and frogs and also a set of dissecting tools. Next, we were to put the animals to sleep using chloroform. Then, we pinned their limbs using pins onto a little dissecting "table" or rather a tray filled with hardened gel. Finally, it was cutting the animals open.
Eeeewww
I am very sorry as I recall this experience, so much so that I could not even google images for it. I mean why did we even torture the animals and certify their deaths on the table? That was so cruel as we did it before they died, but during the time they were unconscious or "sleeping", OMG!!! Imagine if the animal gained its consciousness while being cut open, aaaaarggghhhhhhhh! I cannnot imagine the pain. That was really uncalled for. I deeply regret my actions.
I mean if we were to study the anatomy, we could have just read about it from the books and illustrations. How could we cut them open alive? It is disgusting and unkind!
Thinking about this, I could feel my hands turn cold as I am typing this line. I truly am repentant. I hope that perhaps one day this part of the course will not be executed anymore. I have a friend who is a Biology teacher and she does that with her students year after year. My heart cannot. Maybe that's why I am NOT a biology teacher, though I do tutor my students in Biology.
Freewrite is a prompt writing initiated by
@mariannewest and
@improv to write a free-flow post without correcting or editing. I checked out her post to really get what it is before I jumped on the bandwagon. Basically, there is no right or wrong, just let the mind and fingers do their work, to find our creative self and let it come out of us.
