Dipping into my Tennessee stash for this week's #beersaturday. So I got this beer the same week that I tried Chimay for the first time in my life. Chimay is brewed by Belgian Trappist Monks.
So I figured that the folks over at Elkmont Exchange Brewery were somehow inspired by the Trappist monks' brewing tradition.
Honestly, I was a little worried and had flashbacks to my youth at an all boys Catholic school. I have seen an angry monk, not a soon forgotten moment, therefore the thought of Twelve Angry Monks did give me a slight pause.
At a Catholic School, even your own brother would rat you out to avoid a major whooping. I have seen it with me own eyes.
I, of course, was an angel of a child, so as to never have to face the wrath of God.
Yep, that's my story and I am sticking to it.
Enough of my childhood psychological scarring, lets move on to some fun stuff.
BEER NAME: Twelve Angry Monks
STYLE: Belgian Dark Strong Ale
BREWER: Elkmont Exchange Brewery, Knoxville Tennessee
ABV: 10%
APPEARANCE: dark brown color with a full thick head
AROMA: toasted malts
TASTE: very malty with a sweet fruit finish
MOUTHFEEL: full body that carbonates well with the malt that lingers
HANGOVER FACTOR: at 10% ABV be careful
Overall a nice beer and truly enjoyable. If they were trying to dethrone the Trappist Monks in Belgium, then I understand why these fellas are so angry, because that did not happen.
I think this brew is not just a good beer but also a great looker. What do you think?
