What the heck is Oaktoberfest?

Excuse me, I checked the can and today I am having an Oaktoberfest Lager brewed by Red Oak Brewery in Whitsett, North Carolina.

Now how is that for a clever bit of marketing! It is not Oktoberfest but rather OAKtoberfest.

Not only some clever marketing, but some excellent craft brewing. As many of you probably have gathered from my many posts featuring Red Oak Brewery, I always enjoy their beer.

This particular beer is a seasonal beer and the first time handofzara@handofzara has ever had this brew.

So for the first time, anywhere in the HIVE World, on #beersaturday I present Red Oak Oaktoberfest.

BEER NAME: Oaktoberfest
STYLE: Marzen
BREWER: Red Oak Brewery, Whitsett, North Carolina
ABV: 6.5%
APPEARANCE: deep amber color, clear and pours with a foamy head
AROMA: malt and then a hint of . . . malt with some more malt
TASTE: caramelized malts with subtle bitters
MOUTHFEEL: medium body, carbonates well with the malt lingering

Another great beer by the good folks over at Red Oak Brewery. For several weeks here on #beersaturday, I have been getting in the Oktoberfest Mood by enjoying many Marzen beers from North Carolina and Germany. The key for a marzen beer, at least to handofzara@handofzara, is the bitterness.

I know that that seems odd, for a beer that is mostly a sweet brew of caramelized malts, but it is the bitterness that sets the sweetness apart.

TRIVIA TIME!

I have a #beersaturday tradition of asking a TRIVIA QUESTION and the first person to answer correctly in the COMMENTS wins a BEER TOKEN.

QUESTION: Marzen beer is traditionally brewed in the Month of March and served in the Month of October. The Month of March is named for which Roman god?

Good luck and I will see y'all next #beersaturday.
