Foothills Brewing in Winston-Salem, North Carolina opened in 2004 with their first signature beer, the Pilot Mountain Pale Ale. Named for a local landmark that rises above the foothills of the Carolina Piedmont.
It is a special place with wonderful hiking trails. A place where I have often hiked with my family.
In 2020, "the year that was not" as I like to call it, Foothills Brewing retired this signature brew to concentrate on new beers. And then, a nice disaster struck.

It was just after Thanksgiving of last year, that a small campfire got out of control and started a wildfire. A wildfire that took over a week to bring under control and left close to 1000 acres charred and in ruin. I have yet to return to the trails that I often wondered, though I do plan on going soon, perhaps this Spring.
The Foothills Brewery decided to bring the Pilot Mountain Pale Ale out of retirement and donate a portion of all the sales for the restoration of the Park.
So if Foothills is so inclined as to brew it, then

ABV: 5.5%

APPEARANCE: dark gold, pours with a small head, and is clear
AROMA: Hops
TASTE: hoppy with a nice balance of malt, tinge of citrus
MOUTHFEEL: light to medium body, carbonates well and dry finish
Really a nice brew! But I must confess all this volunteer work has me plumb worn out. Dang, I think I need to go have another beer. :)
