Yesterday I wrote a post where I visited Vääna beach about 3 weeks ago. Today I'm going to talk about the walk I did on the same day. The weather turned out great and I decided to move forward and wanted to walk where I had never gone before. Along the northern Estonian coast goes a long ridge of high coastal cliffs and point where its the highest is Türisalu cliff, it goes up to 45 meters in height. That is exactly where I wanted to go but this time I wanted to see it from below.
My walk started from the Vääna beach.
You can see that the walk isn't easy. There are many boulders and many are slippery to step on. I was pretty worried about breaking my camera if it comes to falling.
On the side of the cliff, I saw many caves, carved into the cliff. This is a doing of seawater smashing against it over the years.
Water is such a powerful force.
From this point, it started to get a little scary because there was hardly any space between the sea and a steep cliff. As I watched boulders at the verge of falling at any given moment and huge stones that had already fallen to the beach, well, tasted like death.
The situation got even worse when I heard a small rock somewhere near falling off of the cliff. Despite the danger, I have to admit I even enjoy a little danger, makes life more interesting. Still, I wanted to move away from there as fast as I could to get on an area a little wider.
Here are some shots of the lurking boulders above the beach I was walking.
Some sculptures made by the sea.
From there I got to a part where the beach got wider and sandy. Cliff also didn't look so menacing anymore.
Another great thing was the silence. The wind was coming from the sound and behind this high cliff it felt like the air was still. Even the sea hardly made any noise.
At this point, it started to get really dark and I started to walk back. Through the beaches, climbing over boulders and watching this nerve-wracking cliff. Took me about an hour to get back to the car.
On my way back I took only one shot of the sunset through the clouds.
I think I'm going back there sometime in this summer after all nights won't get dark here in Estonia any more so I have all the daylight I need.
