On another adventure in nature. You must have seen me posting about so many bogs over the years. This is because Estonia has so many of them and it's nice to walk in these places. A couple of days ago I went to the Jalase swamp. Yes, a swamp this time not a bog.
The difference is that the soil in the swamp is muddy but the soil in bogs consists of peat, made of decayed plants.
Jalase swamp is located in Rapla county, central Estonia. Not too far from the town Rapla itself.
Of course, to reach the swap, I first needed to take a hike through the forest leading there.
What was interesting that there was total silence. It's a bit strange that I could hear my own ears hissing. It was quieter than in my bedroom at night. Literally a total silence. Basically, the wind was zero and there are no large freeways or roads in the near vicinity. Pretty much in the middle of the wilderness. I liked it.
The swamp path isn't very long at all and leads to the largest lake of the swamp. Lake Jalase, go figure. Took several shots on the shore there. The first picture of this post too.
Since the wooden path ended, I wondered if there was a possibility to walk around the lake. Well, there is but it's too wet and my hiking boots are not that water-resistant.
I cancelled the intent to walk around the lake but instead, I found a relatively dry way up a small hill and a huge swampland field appeared. I loved the lighting and of course took many shots there.
I went as far to the field as possible but it was still too wet to go any further. It is still a wetland, not an ordinary field.
Have you heard stories that swamp terrain can suck you in and drown you? Well, it's true actually but the ground has to be really soft in a certain spot and you also need to be incredibly slow escaping the ground.
Is it just me or this landscape resembles African savanna a bit?
I absolutely enjoyed being there.

Back, next to the Jalase lake there was a fox. I have to be honest, it fooled me at first.
It was an amazing location and I'm looking forward to going back there in the summer. Maybe even going for a swim in the lake.
