In a week my 2-week vacation from work will start and I had planned to go to Norway. I was planning to drive my own car from Estonia to northern Norway and this would be a 2 week trip in total. This plan was certain until Iceland decided to act up. 6 days ago earthquakes and magma intrusion started on Reykjanes peninsula. Specialists are pretty certain that the new volcanic eruption is likely to start very soon, in the same area where the previous 2 eruptions happened in 2021 and 2022. I have been to Iceland both times but I failed to see the actual eruption close-up in person. So I might have a chance now when it erupts for the third time in this area.
Eruption in 2021 I photographed farther away from Reykjavik. I failed to visit the site in the day after due to severe weather, after a week the eruption was gone already.
Those recent developments in Iceland have made my decision really hard because I would buy the tickets when the eruption starts but I only have a couple of days to make the choice and as of right now there is no eruption. Yesterday there was a 5.2-magnitude earthquake. If I'm going to Norway then I need to buy the ferry tickets that sail us from Estonia to Finland.
If we were to go to Iceland then we would travel there for no more than a week and we would have also a free week in Estonia to go camping and stuff. Still, it would be sad to skip Norway because I have wanted to go there for so long.
Last year I flew to Iceland to see the second eruption in August but I missed it just by two days. Very unfortunate but I still hiked to the area where the eruption happened.
I just hope that if the eruption starts now, it happens in the next 2 days at the latest. Then I would be sure to fly to Iceland but until that happens I just don't know what to do and it drives me crazy. I am sure to update you too what I decided in a couple of days...
