Quisiera comenzar en primer lugar definiendo dos conceptos que muchas veces tendemos a confundir: inspiración y motivación.
Según el diccionario de la lengua española, la inspiración se define de esta manera:

"Estado propicio para cualquier creación del espíritu, en especial aquel en que el artista produce su obra sin esfuerzo aparente y con fluidez"

En cuanto al término motivación, lo define así:

"Acción de justificar una cosa con motivos o razones"

Nos damos cuenta que, aunque algunas veces confundimos los términos, el significado de cada palabra es completamente distinto. Sin embargo, para entenderlo mejor pongamos un ejemplo:

Si yo estoy escribiendo este blog porque necesito obtener una remuneración, estoy motivado pero no inspirado.

Si, por el contrario escribo este blog porque me gusta escribir para comunicar algo y además, disfruto al hacerlo, estoy inspirado.

A mi modo de entender, la motivación se da en forma de estímulos externos que te llevan y te "halan" para que hagas algo, mientras la inspiración es un chispazo que viene de tu interior y te impulsa para que seas tu el que ejecute la acción.

We realize that, although we sometimes confuse the terms, the meaning of each word is completely different. However, to understand it better let's take an example:
If I am writing this blog because I need to get paid, I am motivated but not inspired.
If, on the other hand, I am writing this blog because I like to write to communicate something and I enjoy doing it, I am inspired.
As I understand it, motivation is given in the form of external stimuli that lead you and "pull" you to do something, while inspiration is a spark that comes from inside you and drives you to be the one who performs the action.

Una vez aclarado este punto prosigo hablándoles de la inspiración desde el punto de vista artístico. Es aquí donde quizá se manifiesta la inspiración con mayor frecuencia. Un escritor, por ejemplo que no esté inspirado, dejará el papel en blanco hasta tanto ésta no aparezca. De igual manera, un pintor no podrá plasmar nada bueno en su lienzo sino siente esa energía que lo impulsa a la creación de su obra artística. y así podemos citar muchos ejemplos donde todo artista necesita una "musa" para encontrar la inspiración.

Having clarified this point, I will continue talking about inspiration from the artistic point of view. This is perhaps where inspiration manifests itself most frequently. A writer, for example, who is not inspired, will leave the paper blank until inspiration appears. In the same way, a painter will not be able to capture anything good on his canvas if he does not feel that energy that drives him to create his artistic work, and so we can cite many examples where every artist needs a "muse" to find inspiration.

Desde el punto de vista teológico ( no pretendo aquí desarrollar una tesis en teología porque no soy experto en la materia), quiero aportarles mi testimonio como catequista católico que soy.

La función del catequista es la de servir de acompañante y guía a aquellas personas que no conocen a Dios, para que tengan su encuentro personal con él. Esto se hace a través de la enseñanza de la biblia y me ha pasado muchas veces que preparo el material de la charla y al final termino hablando de cosas diferentes que no estaban programadas. Otras veces, me enfrento a la audiencia sin haber preparado nada y termino analizando cosas que yo mismo quedo impresionado porque me fluyeron en el momento. Esto para mí es inspiración divina.

From a theological point of view (I do not intend here to develop a thesis in theology because I am not an expert in the field), I want to give you my testimony as a Catholic catechist.
The function of the catechist is to accompany and guide those people who do not know God, so that they may have a personal encounter with him. This is done through the teaching of the bible and it has happened to me many times that I prepare the material for the talk and at the end I end up talking about different things that were not programmed. Other times, I face the audience without having prepared anything and I end up analyzing things that I myself am impressed because they flowed to me in the moment. This for me is divine inspiration.

En la vida cotidiana nos pasa a cada uno de nosotros, que a pesar de tener motivos suficientes para lograr una meta, al final fracasamos porque no se nos prendió la chispa de la inspiración o porque me llegó muy tarde.

Es importante recalcar que la inspiración será mas fácil de conseguir cuando se tiene mística, es decir cuando estoy realmente enamorado de lo que hago. Esto va a ayudar a fluir mejor las ideas porque siempre estaremos trabajando para algo que me mueve y me transforma como persona.

El problema con la inspiración es que no podemos manejarla a voluntad. Es decir, no llega cuando en realidad la necesitamos sino cuando menos lo esperamos, pero creo que con la práctica constante puede mejorarse su uso.

En una oportunidad estaba en mi carro haciendo una larga cola para colocar gasolina con el radio encendido y de repente escucho una canción muy jocosa que hablaba de las diferentes profesiones que existen. Enseguida en forma casi automática tomé papel y lápiz y escribí varios versos que me salieron sin mucho esfuerzo, basados en los diferentes trabajos que realizamos. Fue un momento de inspiración activado con una canción, pero apoyado por el deseo y amor por la escritura.

Ahora bien, para responder la pregunta inicial: ¿donde encuentro la inspiración? Hay personas que la buscan en el silencio, en un paisaje bonito, en una mujer hermosa, en la sonrisa o llanto de un niño, en el amor o en una puesta de sol. A mi parecer, todo lo nombrado anteriormente son detonantes que hacen explotar la chispa que cada uno de nosotros lleva dentro. Es decir, todos estamos dotados por naturaleza del don de la inspiración, lo que hace falta es aprender a estimularlo para que su presencia nunca nos abandone.

In everyday life it happens to each one of us, that in spite of having enough reasons to achieve a goal, in the end we fail because the spark of inspiration did not ignite or because it came too late.
It is important to emphasize that inspiration will be easier to get when you have mystique, that is, when I am really in love with what I do. This will help the ideas flow better because we will always be working for something that moves me and transforms me as a person.
The problem with inspiration is that we cannot handle it at will. That is to say, it does not come when we really need it but when we least expect it, but I believe that with constant practice we can improve its use.
Once I was in my car in a long queue for gas with the radio on and suddenly I heard a very funny song that talked about the different professions that exist. Immediately, almost automatically, I took paper and pencil and wrote several verses that came to me without much effort, based on the different jobs we do. It was a moment of inspiration activated by a song, but supported by the desire and love for writing.
Now, to answer the initial question: where do I find inspiration? Some people look for it in silence, in a beautiful landscape, in a beautiful woman, in the smile or cry of a child, in love or in a sunset. In my opinion, all the above mentioned are triggers that explode the spark that each one of us carries inside. That is to say, we are all endowed by nature with the gift of inspiration, what we need is to learn how to stimulate it so that its presence never leaves us.
