Greetings, dear fellow travelers of the world! I hope this start to the week is a fruitful one for all of you.

I’m back with you today to share some photos of an old Catholic church called the “Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help,” though it’s better known as “La Tercera.”

It earned the name “La Tercera” because, back in the last century, it was run by the Third Order of the Franciscan Fathers, known as the Tertiaries; this information is printed on the plaque at the church’s entrance.

It later became the headquarters of the Redemptorist missionaries in 1826, who are currently celebrating 100 years of Redemptorist presence in the state of Mérida.

This date also marks the 300th anniversary of the birth of Saint Gerard Majella, the Redemptorist saint and patron of pregnant women, children, and those who are unable to conceive. For this reason, the church is decorated with flowers throughout, especially around the statue of the saint and the image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, right next to the main altar.

For these two reasons, the Missionaries of the Most Holy Redeemer, in the presence of a large group of parishioners, celebrated a Mass presided over by the bishop to commemorate these important dates.

This church is located on 18th Street in the capital city of Mérida, very close to the cathedral in a spot that’s quite accessible to visitors.

Its architecture is very beautiful, and the colors of its walls—gold and ivory—give the façade a very pleasing appearance. Additionally, its location is ideal, as the church can be seen from a great distance

The interior features a very distinctive design with parabolic arches at the entrance doors, on the ceiling, and in the niches where the images of the saints and the tabernacle are housed.

The interior colors were also clearly chosen with care, as they create a visually pleasing ensemble the moment one enters the church. It is an architectural masterpiece with countless intricate details that lend it elegance from every angle.

Mérida is fortunate to have buildings of such historical significance as this important church, which is associated with the Redemptorist Fathers who carry out purely charitable and missionary work.

I’ll sign off for now, but not before inviting you to join us again in this community of travelers.

Blessings to all.
