If I had to choose just one food item and only have that to eat for the rest of my life it would be a very tough decision between tacos and pizza. I think that tacos would win in the end. I believe they might be the world's most perfect food.
Whenever I ride my bike for a long distance I tend to go an eat whatever I want during the ride because I am burning a crap-ton of calories when I ride a bicycle for several hours in a row. I was wandering aimlessly because I tend to not plan my rides but rather just head in a certain direction in the hopes of finding something new and hidden. I found such a place last night in a very unlikely location.
So i emerged onto a road from some twisting alleyway (which was actually a lot of fun) and saw right in front of me a tiny little shop that simply said "Tacos" on it. I don't know if that was the name of the place or if they were talking about what they make here but who cares!
There was only 2 tables and a small window-bar area but I was the only customer so it didn't really matter. I had my doubts about whether or not they actually know what they are doing because despite the fact that tacos are AWESOME, they are not terribly popular with Thai people. It wasn't very much money so I figured I would give it a shot.
These were simple, but had all the bits that a taco is supposed to have and there was not attempt at "fusion" (don't get me wrong, fusion can be great, but tacos are already so perfect the way they are) and i gotta say these might be some of the best tacos I have ever had... but then again, i prefer the simple things in life so I am pretty easy to please in this realm.
This is one of the things that I really enjoy about riding my bicycle with no real destination in mind. It's a Forrest Gump's box of chocolates type situation and while Thailand isn't exactly the place that anyone should try looking for great Tex-Mex, that is precisely what I found after being basically very lost for about 20 minutes.
It's amazing when stuff like this happens and I would say that I will return to this place, but I only have a quite vague idea of where it is. Who knows what kind of gem i'll find the next time i get lost :)
the previous day, I had purchased this silly shirt, perhaps I subconsciously made this happen
