Summer is winding down, the garden harvest has been picked and now comes the time to start cleaning up the greenhouse, garden beds and gathering as much as I can for the upcoming winter months.
Harvest of the last of the arugula and spinach.
I am sure going to miss the fresh taste of these salad greens!
It was such a treat on any given day to walk outside and snip some arugula and spinach for a salad at lunch or with dinner.
One day I'll figure out how to grow greens indoors for year-round enjoyment.
So What Needs To Be Done?
Cleaning Up The Greenhouse
- Time to take all the containers and flower pots and give them a good scrubbing before packing away for the year
- De-construct (greenhouse) and put away before the first frost
- Get all the garden tools and hoses put up
- Bring in all the house plants I set outside for some summer sunshine
- Propagate any plants that need to be brought indoors (Aloe and citronella)
Garden Beds
Now is the time to think ahead and prepare the garden beds for next season.
- Till them up and mix in mulch to add nutrients for next year
- Trim back the dead plants and prune down others (perennials) to give them a good start to next year's growth
