Feels exciting to be a part of and share my recent sewing project with you all. It's a beautiful day today with the sun shining so bright, a perfect day to get busy with something interesting.
I had made a dress for my friend who is also a mum for the holiday, and luckily for us, we had more than enough leftover fabric to make her one-year-old daughter a dress and also spare my friend a little scarf.
Since I had promised her to get the dress delivered this evening, I had to get started making the dress, and that was how I spent most of my morning today.
One of my favorite things to sew is baby girl's dresses because it gives me an opportunity to get creative and the dresses I make always turn out very cute, and also because their dresses are most times easy to make and take less time to get it completed compared to making adults dresses.
Without further ado, let's get right into the making process.
Materials used
- Ankara fabric
- Silk fabric
- Sewing thread and machine
Cutting And Sewing Process
- I started by folding the fabric in a fold of two then in a bias fold of four to form a triangle shape, then I drafted an A-line pattern on the dress using a one-year-old baby measurement.
- Next, I cut out the drafted pattern, and here is what the front and back look like, with the front having a deeper neckline
- Moving on, I cut out the facing for the front and back pattern using the silk fabric, sewed it, and turned it out with the main pattern fabric to the front.
- For the back, I sewed and inserted button loops before turning it over
- Next, I joined the front and back by their shoulders
- I also joined them by their sides
- Next, I cut out a long strip of fabric of about 7.5 inches in width which I pleated and sewed around the hem of the main dress to complete its length.
- I was supposed to be done here, but the front looked somehow plain, so I proceeded to make a big bow, which I tacked on the front dress, which enhanced this cute little dress further, giving it a perfect finish.
I love the beautiful result and look forward to fitting it on our little princess.
