Arbutus unedo - Ericaceae (ENG)

Arbutus unedo (strawberry tree) is a Mediterranean evergreen tree belonging to the Ericaceae family. Its unique growing cycle allows it to simultaneously produce white flowers, red fruits, and green leaves. This peculiarity stems from the fact that the fruits ripen a year after forming.

The strawberry tree is a shrub or small tree, growing up to 5–8 meters tall, with a dense crown and leathery, glossy, dark green leaves. The flowers, gathered in pendulous clusters, appear in autumn; the globular, wrinkled fruits ripen the following autumn.

Arbutus unedo - Ericaceae (ITA)

Arbutus unedo (Corbezzolo) è un albero sempreverde mediterraneo appartenente alla famiglia delle Ericaceae, caratterizzato da un ciclo vegetativo unico che permette di osservare contemporaneamente fiori bianchi, frutti rossi e foglie verdi. Questa peculiarità deriva dal fatto che i frutti maturano un anno dopo la loro formazione.

Il corbezzolo è un arbusto o piccolo albero alto fino a 5–8 metri, con chioma densa e foglie coriacee, lucide, di colore verde scuro. I fiori, riuniti in grappoli penduli, compaiono in autunno; i frutti, globosi e rugosi, maturano l’autunno successivo.

Terreno: preferibilmente acido o subacido, ben drenato

Tossicità e precauzioni
