Our cat.
Nowadays, pets exist in all families. There are those who prefer dogs and there are those who prefer cats, there are also others who enjoy having both. In my home we only have one cat named Copito, and we are visited on a day-to-day basis by too many cats from the neighbors and the streets that come to fight in my garden, destroying my plants.
In ancient Egypt they loved cats so much to the point of veneration. Why? Because they worshiped the god Ra, he was the god of the radiant sun, who showed its dominance throughout the day but when night came the sun was exposed to the enemies, but there were lions with their big eyes the color of the sun, which reflected sunlight. These beasts came out in dark nights and illuminated the darkness. This is why lions came to have the importance they had for representing an image to protect the gods in the dark as well as the god Ra.
But there were problems when taming lions and then they came to consider that cats were felines of the same family as lions. These small wild cats came to take the figure of the protective being of the god Ra during the nights, to the point that in many pyramids and in the tombs of pharaohs, there are images of felines guarding their last home.
In those times only the pharaohs could have cats, since it was a sacred animal only for the gods. Nobody could have them as property and much less nobody could harm a cat since the death penalty would fall on that person.
In Egypt, male cats were called myeou and female cats were called techau. This name was found in many important women's tombs in Egyptian culture, there was even an image of a woman's body with the head of a feline and this was the goddess Bastet, a symbol of beauty and fertility. This goddess represented light and the god Ra, the sun, but also being a cat represented the night and the moon.
Later, when superstition arose with the Middle Age and the rise of Christianity, cats were considered a symbol of the devil for their relationship with the nocturnal habits of the feline and they were persecuted and exterminated along with their owners at the stake, due to their association with demons, witchcraft and evil spirits. But this belief cost them dearly; the proliferation of rats brought with it the plague and thus the extermination of many inhabitants and/or entire populations occurred.
There are many studies that claim that most of today's domestic cats are descended from the African wild cat, but they aren’t very sure that the Chinese wild cats that existed before the Egyptian wild cats are mixed with these domestic cats.
The truth is that today cats are our companions in the majority of houses and they are not considered evil animals but rather they are animals with many healing energies for the human being.
Cats are said to choose their owners, they have a tendency to find an affinity with the people they want to live with and they show their attachment to them with affection and purrs.
My Copito was chosen by his mom to be in our family. His mother, who was a cat from another place, came to my house one day and adopted me, to then die on the street. Not without first leaving her little son in my care.
Today Copito remains in the heart of my son and mine, as long as he wants to continue living with us, but he is a free cat. He comes and leaves our house when he wants to and he is happy that way, so that makes us happy.

Nuestro gato.
En la actualidad en todas las familias existen las mascotas. Hay quienes prefieren a los perros y hay quienes prefieren a los gatos. O también a ambos. En mi hogar solo tenemos un gato de nombre Copito, y en el día nos visitan demasiados gatos de los vecinos que vienen a pelear sobre mi jardín, destrozando mis plantas.
En el antiguo Egipto amaban tanto a los gatos al punto de la veneración. Por qué? En el antiguo Egipto veneraban al dios Ra, era el dios del sol radiante. Que mostraba su dominio durante todo el día pero al llegar la noche, el sol, quedaba expuesto a los enemigos. Pero existían los leones con sus grandes ojos del color del sol, que reflejaban la luz solar. Estas bestias salían en las noches oscuras e iluminaban la oscuridad. Es por esto que los leones llegaron a tener la importancia que tuvieron por representar una imagen como para proteger a los dioses en la oscuridad así como al dios Ra.
Pero había un problema para domesticar a un león. Y entonces llegaron a considerar que los gatos eran felinos de la misma familia de los leones. Estos pequeños felinos salvajes llegaron a tomar la figura del ser protector del dios Ra durante las noches. Al punto que en muchas pirámides y en tumbas de los faraones, existen imágenes de los felinos custodiando sus últimas moradas.
En aquellos tiempos solo lo faraones podían tener gatos ya que era un animal sagrado solo para los dioses. Nadie los podía tener como propiedad y mucho menos nadie podía dañar a un gato ya que le caería la pena de muerte sobre esa persona.
En Egipto a los gatos machos se les llegó a nombrar como myeou y a los gatos hembras se les llamó como a techau. Este nombre se encontró en muchas tumbas de mujeres importantes en la cultura egipcia. Incluso existía una imagen con cuerpo de mujer con la cabeza de un felino y esta era la diosa Bastet, símbolo de la belleza y fecundidad. Esta diosa representaba la luz y el dios Ra, el sol, pero también siendo gato representaba la noche y la luna.
Luego cuando surgió la edad media con la superstición y el surgimiento del cristianismo, se consideró a los gatos símbolo del demonio por su relación con los hábitos nocturnos del felino y fueron perseguidos y exterminados junto a sus dueños en la hoguera, por su asociación con el demonio, la brujería y los malos espíritus. Pero a esta creencia en relación a los gatos les costó caro. La proliferación de las ratas trajo consigo la peste y ocurrió así la exterminación de muchas habitantes de poblaciones enteras.
Hay muchos estudios que afirman que la mayor parte de los gatos domésticos de la actualidad descienden del gato salvaje africano. Pero no están muy seguros de que los gatos salvajes chinos que ya existían antes de los gatos salvajes egipcios se hallan mezclado con estos gatos domésticos.
Lo cierto es que hoy día los gatos son nuestros compañeros en las mayorías de las casas y no son considerados animales malvados sino más bien son animales con muchas energías sanadoras para el ser humano.
Se dice que los gatos escogen a sus dueños. Tienen cierta tendencia a encontrar afinidad con las personas con las que quieren vivir. Y le demuestran su apego con cariños y ronroneos.
Mi Copito fue escogido por su mamá gato para estar en nuestra familia. Su mamá quien era una gata de otro lugar, llegó un día a mi casa y me adoptó para luego morir en la calle. No sin antes dejarme a su pequeño hijo a mi cuidado. Hoy en día Copito permanece en el corazón de mi hijo y en el mío, mientras él quiera seguir viviendo con nosotros, pero es un gato libre. Va y viene a nuestra casa cuando quiere y así él es feliz y nos hace felices a nosotros.
