There are lots of things I haven't tried out in Lagos and honestly, I am not looking forward to trying them out but life happened and I had no option but to get my experience. Night market is one of those things and I don't understand why people go to market at night when you can't see what you are buying properly. I have met people who boast of buying good things at night market and because I haven't tried it; their testimonies weren't convincing enough.

A few years ago, something happened and I had to visit the night market. You do be wondering what I think about night market now but you have to read to the end to know my experience.

Some weird things were happening in the compound where I lived back then and I couldn't comprehend why it was happening. It happened that whenever anyone spread clothes on the line outside the house, they disappeared and never to be found again.

We knew the thief was in the house but couldn't figure out who it was. The person was so cruel that he or she even packed wet clothes.

Due to the nature of my job, I only wash on Saturday evening and leave the clothes on the line over the night. On that particular day, I thought about it critically and felt it was safe to spread my cloth very early on Sunday morning instead of Saturday since almost every tenant would be busy outside and the thief wouldn't try shit. QqI stepped in for a moment and took a nap after washing. I woke up later and was shocked to see no one was outside anymore, all my jean trousers and office uniform were gone. I ran around the compound but I didn't see anyone to ask if they saw who packed my trousers which were the most important to me.

I felt down for many reasons, I didn't have jeans to wear to work since I had washed all five in my closet. I had pants but not for work, the last time I wore one to work, I had to rush back home because it tore while jumping from one bike to another. After a while, other tenants knew about my missing clothes and the majority of them said that they saw the clothes before they left the yard.

Later in the evening, I took my mind off and immediately pressed my pants for replacement until I could afford new pairs of jeans by month's end. I was prepared for tomorrow's work when a close neighbour suggested that we went to the night market, he said we could get second-hand jeans at cheap prices.

It wasn't a bad idea because new jeans cost around $9 then so I agreed to visit the market and that was my first time. Upon our arrival, I saw some nice designs but was been sceptical about them.

We went around and finally got some Polo, they were nice. We arrived at a guy's place and there were lots of jeans there but unfortunately, none were my size. The guy told us to give him a few minutes, he went for a while and returned with a pair of jeans. I collected it to check it out and got the biggest shock of that day. The jean was partially wet and I couldn't even ask the guy why before I left his presence. I lost interest in buying anything else and we just left the market. I went to work the next day and upon returning home, I checked the cloth I got the previous a and was left flabbagastered.

The Polos had faded and even had tiny holes in them. I was short of anger and just burst into laughter while holding the cloth, I went to show my neighbour and he was shocked too. We stared at the clothes and just laughed for a while, we had the time to gist about the previous night and I never dared to visit the night market again.
