Today happens to be my first time preparing Waakye, I have had the meal twice before now. The first time was from a food vendor while one of my guests during the Christmas holiday also made it, I love the taste of the meal but I didn't know how it is been prepared until during the Christmas season.
If I knew it was this simple, I would make it anytime I feel like eating it.
It is a traditional meal for Ghanaians but the irresistible color and taste of the meal has made it famous and a favorite meal for some Nigerians.

I wasn't feeling hungry in the morning so I made just-tea because of the cold weather but while I was making the tea, I discovered we still have the dried millet stalk at home which is the most important recipe for making Waakye.
Seeing the millet stalk inspired me to try making the meal for the first time.
Steps
Waakye is prepared just like the normal rice but the millet stalk makes the difference. You can derive the dark water by boiling the millet stalk or soaking it in water hours before you cook it.
Once you have gotten the red water from the soaked millet stalk, use the water to boil the rice but you must be careful with the quantity of water because it can ruin the texture of the rice since you won't be sieving rice.
You can cook with beans but I didn't include that in mine, it is a normal boiling until it is ready to eat.
Waakye Stew.
The Waakye stew is another interesting thing about the meal, I didn't make the stew to standard because it was unplanned but it still taste great.
I made it very spicy, fried with oil and lots of onions.
You can add seafood, beef, hotdog, and anything you think will make it enticing.
Waakye stew is always well fried and I love it with excess oil so I can paint my Waakye with it, a simple deep of your recipes and stew will give you a good taste of what you need to devour your Waakye.
The meal isn't perfect but I was very satisfied after eating it, that's how I feel eating food prepared by myself.
Do you feel the same way?.
