Ooh, the first few bulbs of the season were ready today. I love garlic so much. I can't wait to roast a bulb and spread it on a piece of sourdough toast. I needs it.
Okay, drooling aside, I still can't believe six days elapsed since I posted. It's like I am in a hustlin' themed time warp.
The 4th weekend was a fun affair for us up here, we had some guests and there was no small amount of food. I invented a jalapeno bacon macaroni and cheese recipe that was deemed the best macaroni and cheese I've ever had by more than one person, so I was on cook cloud nine for most of the weekend, as my strawberry ice box cake and homemade queso were hits too.
Did I mentioned I mostly cooked and baked July 3rd and 4th?
But honestly, the smoked mac and cheese was otherworldly good. I even took the time to stop and write that recipe down. Next time I make it I will share it on here as I didn't get any pictures.
In between cooking and eating, I went on several hikes, and even jumped a fairly large boar black bear out of the bush while we were out and about. He wanted nothing to do with three armed ladies and three canines. I get it, I mean middle aged women can be terrifying!
The construction crews went home for the weekend, but they are back at it now, firing things up at 6am and working like they got a nipping blue heeler at their heels. Right now two massive dump trucks are taking load after load of tree offal to the YUGE slash piles just beyond my house.
This fall it shall be a glorious fun event to burn them!
But now, now I need to go finish my woodshed project. I am taking what's left from last year and moving it forward so I can add the new stuff to the back. I'm also taking out the ridiculous garbage wood the former creature who dwelled here deigned to put in the woodshed. Grumble, grumble.
Next post I will relay what Jojo has been up too. It is a lot. All of it has to do with death and murder. She is a menace.
But for now, now I am going to grab my headphones, the corg, and not my shotgun (been wearing that a lot, there is a whole lot of bear activity going on around the ranch right now for some reason), and get to work. I mean, I have been working all morning, but round here one cannot sit on one's flintlocks for too long. There's some manner of chorin to do or fire to put out, or in my case usually both at the same time!
And as most of the time, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's soon to be blasting fun tunes into the author's brain band so as to motivate her to keep going iPhone.
