Today, is my husband's annual rifle team bbq here on our farm. What does that have to do with the delightful lunch diversion title and picture of Thai food you might be wondering? Well, We live about twenty miles or so from where one might procure bbq supplies, like Costco hotdogs, assorted condiments, big packages of burger patties, etc.
So, this past Thursday, the hubs and I did what a lot of rural people do, we made a big trip to town. We grow a lot of our own food, but there are still things I buy once a month, so we shopped for all the bbq supplies and our monthly groceries all in one day. Okay, there were some hardware and miscellaneous supply pick ups too.
On a town day it is not uncommon to hit six or more stores. I keep a running list and we pack it all into a day. This is an especially nice thing to do during the height of the planting, growing, and harvesting season when time is especially allocated to other things. Like endless homestead work things.
Plus, I am baking three days a week right now at the theme park, so I have to hustle and be especially organized.
Which brings me to the lunch part of this epistle. Our Thai House in Coeur d'Alene is one of my favorite restaurants. Like I am talking top three at least. The food is fresh, executed perfectly each time, and HOLY SPICE HANNAH! It's one of the only restaurants that I have ever been to that spices things with intent.
Plus, when I order a combo there, it's really two meals for me, and the frugal person that I am loves two meals for the price of one, especially with how much food costs these days.
My go to dish at Our Thai House is the chicken pad Thai and red chicken curry with steamed rice. I almost always order a spice level five at restaurants in the PNW, but this place a four is hot enough to make you cry, and my last plate actually did, I think my heat level strayed into five territory and I wasn't sad. It might have looked like it though, I was a bit snotty and teared up.
The combination of lime juice, peanuts, curry spices, and coconut milk make me so dang happy. I love the slices of lemon grass in the curry, the perfectly ripple cut veg, all the things!
And I really, truly love the pepper fish sauce stuff that sits in the little containers on the table. The amazing owner lady told me the stuff is referred to as Thai ketchup because they put it on everything, and trust me, I understand that now. That little jar of stuff lends the most amazing briny, umami flavor to already awesome dishes. It's like an East Asia flavor symphony in each bite.
The hubs ordered basil chicken, which also looked and smelled amazing, I especially enjoyed the huge basil leaves adorning the dish, but to be honest, I was so wrapped up in devouring my plate that I didn't notice his quality comestibles or experience with them that much.
I did notice the old dude who took up two and a half parking spaces with his gigantic black Dodge pickup. That guy was legend and maybe not in a good way, as there aren't a lot of spots around the restaurant to begin with.
Maybe he was handicapped in some spatial awareness way. His actions did at least provide with some diversionary entertainment, as did his incredibly loud manner. Heh.
Anyway, if you are ever in Cda, I totally beyond recommend Our Thai House, it's one of the most yum joints around!
And as most of the time, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's lucky it isn't red curry flavored iPhone.
