Hello everyone, especially the ladies in this wonderful community! It’s a real pleasure to be here for another week to take part in the weekly contest. This week’s questions were suggested by
@thekittygirl, who invites us to reflect on the weather and how it affects our lives, our routines, and our moods. Question
1 goes like this: What’s the hardest season of the year for you? Why is it hard, and what do you do to make it bearable?
I live in Venezuela, a tropical country blessed with beautiful landscapes but where we don’t have the four seasons found in temperate zones. Instead, our year is mainly divided into two periods: the rainy season, which we call winter, and the dry season, which is our summer. Without a doubt, the hardest season for me is summer because of the suffocating and unbearable heat we experience during those months.

Unfortunately, the climate situation in my country is becoming much more complicated due to external factors. We are currently experiencing constant electricity rationing and unexpected blackouts. Getting through days of extreme heat without being able to turn on the air conditioner—or at least a fan—becomes a real daily ordeal. You end up sweating profusely, the heat index inside the house rises dramatically, and the physical exhaustion this causes is tremendous, even affecting a good night’s sleep.
To make this season more bearable, I rely on some very basic but necessary strategies: I drink plenty of cold water to stay hydrated, take several short showers throughout the day to lower my body temperature, wear light clothing, and when I’m at home, I try to stay in the back hallway or on the porch—which are the coolest and most well-ventilated spots in my home—while I arm myself with plenty of patience as I wait for the power to come back on.

As for Question 2, which is: Do you like that stability where the weather follows expected patterns, or do you prefer more variety? Is there a season when you really thrive and are happier?
Even though our climate is fairly predictable within its two annual cycles, I don’t miss the variety of the four seasons because I absolutely love and thrive during the rainy season (or winter). I love the cold, and although I’m aware that heavy rains sometimes severely limit our daily activities—making it difficult to go outside or delaying everyday errands—I’d much rather deal with the inconveniences of the rain than the discomfort of extreme heat.
When the weather cools down, the days turn gray, and the sky clouds over, my mood changes completely. I feel much better, with renewed energy and extremely happy. The coolness in the air fills me with an incredible sense of peace that helps me concentrate better, making me much more productive and creative in my work. For me, there’s nothing more relaxing than the sound of rain falling on the roof and that wonderful feeling of relief from the heat that does so much good for both body and mind. It is, without a doubt, my favorite time of year.
