If you live in a part of the world where the seasons follow predictable patterns, you probably know what to expect at different times of the year. For instance where im from we know the months that will constitute raining season and when the dry season is going to come and when the harmattan is coming and personally, if I had to choose one season when I feel happiest and most comfortable, it would be the rainy season. I don't know how anyone can experience the dry or hot or the summer season, with all its heat and discomfort, and still prefer it to the rainy season but i guess to each his or her own. Don't even let me get started on the unsanitary conditions the hot season brings with the body odor and all.

I just love the raining season and one of my favorite things is that earthy smell that fills the air when rain falls on dry ground. I don't even know how to explain it properly, but its just so refreshing and stepping outside after a good rainfall and breathing in that smell. It is as if the earth itself is taking a deep breath after being exhausted by weeks of heat. The air feels fresher, the environment looks cleaner, and everything seems to come alive again. Even the trees and grasses look greener and places that had become dusty and dry suddenly appear beautiful.

Then their is the weather itself, I mean i would rather sit in a room listening to the sound of rain hitting the roof than spend an afternoon sweating because the sun has decided to show everyone who is in charge and the rain is just so peaceful, especially when you are indoors with nowhere urgent to go and its on a weekend and you put on a movie, or read a novel, make some tea and kick back and just forget your troubles and relax!!!!. Now that the raining season is gone, i can only imagine these scenarios . Lol

The dry season, can be so exhausting. I understand that some people enjoy the sunshine and the opportunity to spend more time outdoors, but the heat can become unbearable and im just saying that some people enjoy the sunshine for saying sake, because i dont want to generalise that everyone loves the rain but then again if we are being honest, who likes the heat??? especially when you live somewhere like Nigeria and other tropical countries. There are days when the sun feels less like a source of light and more like a personal enemy. You take a shower, step outside for a few minutes, and somehow feel as though you need another one immediately. Trying to sleep through a hot night can feel like a punishment, and you find yourself turning from one side of the bed to the other, hoping to discover a cooler spot that does not even exist.

What makes the rainy season even more enjoyable for me is how it changes the atmosphere around us. The dust settles, the vegetation becomes greener, and the air feels less harsh. Even familiar places can look different after the rain. There is a certain calmness that comes with cloudy skies, cool breezes, and the sound of water falling outside. I think these little things contribute to how we feel, even when we do not consciously pay attention to them. Sometimes, the weather can influence your mood more than you realise.

I also think there is something interesting about how differently people experience the seasons. Someone who enjoys outdoor activities might prefer the dry season because it makes travelling and organising events easier. Farmers may welcome the rain because their crops depend on it, while people living in flood prone areas might dread its arrival. Our preferences are often shaped by where we live, what we do, and the experiences we associate with different times of the year. This much is true, so at the end of the day it just behoves that while I might complain about the heat and celebrate the first proper rainfall, someone else might be hoping the rain stays away for a little longer.
