I just logged on to Steemit and found the news that the top 20 witnesses have been replaced. I don't even know for certain what did happen, but it seems someone, most likely Justin Sun used the Steem held by several exchanges so they would power up and voted in new witnesses, supposedly witnesses who are quite new in the Steemit environment.
Well I always thought this could happen, I think the soft fork failed and the people who supported it are the main culprits. This just reeks of something that was not well thought out. I said Justin Sun is a canny businessman with a lot of money backing him, of course he would have a lot of clout with most exchanges and yet the witnesses and other big players in all their planning failed to foresee this.
I can't say I foresaw it but I did and do know you don't pick a fight against someone who is much more powerful than you, at least not all of a sudden and without any real plan than the hope that he would sit down and talk. Now I don't see any way out of this, Justin Sun holds most of the cards so if there is a town hall meeting on Wednesday and on Friday he will be calling the shots, and all the witnesses and big guys will be able to do is to try to mitigate the damage.
I never saw this soft fork as a real desire of defending the blockchain, I saw it more like some big guys with a lot to lose trying to defend themselves, now it has has backfired. A very sad turn of events, one which it is impossible to see the outcome, could be it is positive but I really don't havre an idea how it will turn out.
Well we shall have to wait and see what happens, in the mean time I see some people saying all the Dapps created on the Steem blockchain should be moved elsewhere, I think it has started because it seems Steem Connect is down. In any case this move or a hard fork to create another token would be quite useless without knowing what Justin Sun has in mind, I think before taking any crass actions everyone should wait and see what happens on Friday, because if he spent all that money to buy Steemit he must already have his plan, which is the smart way to do things.
