It's funny, I started writing this to try and help me figure out how I could contribute to the community, but I have already veered off course. Maybe I will find something by the end. Instead, I find myself thinking how odd, interesting, and a bit frightening(?) it is to stop and think about how I am able to have a conversation with myself inside my own head. What is this voice? How does it work? I don't know, just seems odd to be able to "hear" a voice without actually hearing a voice.
But I digress, how to best contribute? By default, a baseline level of participation (voting, commenting, etc..,) is a good place to start. Now that I have stated the obvious, what to write about....I would think something that I am interested in. Then again, just because I find something interesting doesn't automatically mean I am qualified to discuss it. What about things that I am, or at least think I am, qualified to write about? Scratch that, sounds terrible. Last thing I want to do is discuss work.
Then again, just because I may not be an expert on a topic doesn't mean that the very act of writing about something helps to shine a light on a subject, which is beneficial in its own right. I would do well to remember that what I say on here is permanent, so I better make sure I have my facts straight or, at the very least, notate when I am just speculating.
It amazes me how brave and/or crazy, some people are posting pictures of themselves or writing things that could easily identify them. Maybe I am too cynical in this regard, but exposing yourself to the world like that is terrifying. Why take that kind of risk? Much safer to stay concealed by the veil of anonymity.
Back again. I should probably start by investing some time in looking for some communities dedicated to things that I am interested in. At the very least, I will hopefully learn something. What if there isn't a community for it yet? Would it be worth starting one?
Start small. Be patient. Rome wasn't built in a day and whatnot...
End scene.
