Just when I was feeling good about my consistency, I haven't been able to write on Hive for a whole month, the college has no mercy in the last weeks of the semester and I've been on the verge of pulling my hair out all these days. While the torture was over, I was able to distract myself with some good movies I read from some community reviews, so I can't wait to tell you about all of them.

Directed by Dani de la Orden and screenplay written by Natalia Durán, Loco por ella is a Spanish film whose protagonist Adri (Álvaro Cervantes), after a daring night with a girl he met in a bar, Carla (Susana Abaitua), decides to break his promise to leave things up to there and look for her. After days of agony, he realizes that the only way to see her is at the Los Sauces psychiatric center from which she escaped that night.

Adri gets a doctor to forge a medical report that lets him admit him as a patient to the psychiatric center, with the bonus of getting information for his new article in the magazine he works for. After a resounding rejection by Carla upon seeing him there, Adri regrets his madness and decides to leave Los Sauces but, as expected, the medical staff won't let him leave or believe a single word of his supposed reasons for hospitalization.

Crazy about her caught my attention because, in addition to being a romantic comedy, it focuses on mental illness, a subject that has always caused a great interest in me. When I first saw the trailer, it gave me to understand that it continued the stigma of these, being yet another movie that fails to give them a good representation, but I couldn't have been more wrong.

We first have Adri, the typical person who believes in ''will is power,'' that you're capable of healing if you try and fight for it. He sees Carla as a ''normal'' person who just happens to be in a bad situation, and he decides that with his love and support he can ''rescue'' her from the psychiatric center. Adri represents the false positivism that is successfully disproved in this film.

The only thing that's impossible is what you don't try. People blame luck, fate, karma, do you know what's always behind a failure? I can' t take it anymore, I quit, never a: I will keep fighting for what I really want.

It's great that they portrayed Adri as someone who is very ignorant on the subject of mental health, as this way the audience can partially educate themselves along with him. Here's where the other characters come in, to make us understand the difficulties of living with this kind of people and the best ways to relate to them.

The performance of Luis Zahera, who plays a patient diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, is incredible and his character will bring out many laughs in the most tense moments but, as his story unfolds, will bring many more tears. How terrible to have to hide your illness and why you are in a psychiatric facility from your young daughter.

The character of Marta (Aixa Villagrán) is a patient with Tourette's syndrome and depression. It's not easy to produce those sudden movements and vocal tics as fluently and naturally as people who really suffer from this type of condition. However, Aixa excelled in her role and we can understand the frustration and helplessness of not being able to control your own body.

Carla, the protagonist, suffers from bipolar disorder, with periods of euphoria and depression. It may seem like ''normal'', but that's the thing about invisible illnesses, that it's harder for your family/friends/work to validate you just because they can't see the signs of your illness.

Clara, the director of the psychiatric center, buzzes us with a powerful message on this topic:

"The hard thing about having a mental illness is that people want you to behave as if you don't have it. "

Crazy About Her was released in 2021, on the Netflix platform, where you can still watch it, it's 1 hour and 40 minutes long. What I love about this film is that it manages to give visibility to mental illness, it makes us see that comedy can also take place in a psychiatric center and that we can't label as ''crazy'' anyone who thinks differently than us.

We all have emotions and feelings, we want to love and be loved, and having a condition doesn't preclude any of it. If you have a friend/family member/partner who has a mental illness, please let him or her know that you're there for him or her. Moreover, I want to end the post with Adri's final message to her readers, about his growth and development as a person:

The next time I see someone sad, I'm not going to ask them to smile. Neither am I going to promise them that recovery is in their hands. If I really want to help them, what I will do is let them know that, even if I'm not able to understand what is happening to them, I'll be there if they need me. "

Justo cuando me sentía bien con mi constancia, no he podido escribir en Hive por un mes entero, la universidad no tiene misericordia en las últimas semanas del semestre y he estado a punto de jalarme los cabellos todos estos días. Mientras la tortura terminaba, pude distraerme con unas buenas películas que leía de algunas reseñas de la comunidad, asi que estoy impaciente por hablarles de todas ellas.

Dirigida por Dani de la Orden y guión escrito por Natalia Durán, Loco por ella es una película española cuyo protagonista Adri (Álvaro Cervantes), después de una atrevida noche con una chica que conoció en un bar, Carla (Susana Abaitua), decide romper la promesa de dejar las cosas hasta ahí y buscarla. Después de días de agonía, se da cuenta que la única manera de verla es en el centro psiquiátrico Los Sauces del que ella se escapó esa noche.

Adri consigue que un doctor le falsifique un informe médico que lo deja ingresar como paciente al centro psiquiátrico, con el bonus de obtener información para su nuevo artículo en la revista para la que trabaja. Luego de un rotundo rechazo por parte de Carla al verlo allí, Adri se arrepiente de su locura y decide irse de Los Sauces pero, como era de esperarse, el personal médico no lo deja retirarse ni le cree una sola palabra de sus supuestas razones para internarse.

Loco por ella me llamó la atención porque, además de ser una comedia romántica, se enfoca en las enfermedades mentales, un tema que siempre ha causado un gran interés en mí. Cuando vi por primera vez el tráiler, me dió a entender que continuaba el estigma de estas, siendo una película más que falla en darles una buena representación, pero no podía estar más equivocada.

Tenemos primero a Adri, la típica persona que cree en el ‘’querer es poder’’, que eres capaz de curarte si lo intentas y luchas por ello. Él ve a Carla como una persona ‘’normal’’ que simplemente se encuentra en una mala situación, y él decide que con su amor y apoyo puede ‘’rescatarla’’ del centro psiquiátrico. Adri representa el falso positivismo que se logra desmentir en esta película.

“Lo único imposible es lo que no intentas. La gente culpa a la suerte, al destino, al karma, ¿Sabéis lo que hay siempre detrás de un fracaso? Un no puedo más, un lo dejo, nunca un: voy a seguir luchando por lo que de verdad quiero.”

Me parece muy bien que hayan presentado a Adri como alguien muy ignorante en el tema de la salud mental, pues de esta manera la audiencia puede parcialmente educarse junto con él. Acá es donde entra en acción los demás personajes, para hacernos entender las dificultades de convivir con este tipo de personas y las mejores maneras para relacionarse con ellos.

La actuación de Luis Zahera, quien interpreta a un paciente diagnosticado con esquizofrenia paranoide, es increíble y su personaje nos sacará muchas risas en los momentos más tensos pero, al desarrollarse su historia, nos provocará muchas más lágrimas. Qué terrible es tener que ocultarle a tu hija pequeña tu enfermedad y el por qué estás en un centro psiquiátrico.

El personaje de Marta (Aixa Villagrán) es una paciente con síndrome de Tourette y depresión. No es fácil producir esos movimientos bruscos y tics vocales con tanta fluidez y naturalidad como las personas que de verdad padecen de este tipo de afección. Sin embargo, Aixa se lució en su papel y podemos entender la frustración y la impotencia de no poder controlar tu propio cuerpo.

Carla, la protagonista, padece de un trastorno bipolar, con períodos de euforia y depresión. Puede parecer como ‘’normal’’, pero ese es el tema de las enfermedades invisibles, que es más difícil que tu familia/amigos/trabajo te validen solo por el hecho de que no pueden ver los signos de tu enfermedad.

Clara, la directora del centro psiquiátrico, nos zumba un mensaje poderoso sobre este tema:

“Lo difícil de tener una enfermedad mental es que la gente quiere que te comportes como si no la tuvieras.”

Loco por ella fue estrenada en el 2021, en la plataforma de Netflix, donde aún la pueden conseguir, tiene una duración de 1 hora y 40 minutos. Lo que me encanta de esta película es que logra darle visibilidad a las enfermedades mentales, nos hace ver que la comedia también puede tener lugar en un centro psiquiátrico y que no podemos tachar de ‘’loco’’ a cualquier persona que piense distinto a nosotros.

Todos tenemos emociones y sentimientos, queremos amar y ser amados, y tener una condición no impide nada de ello. Si tienes algún amigo/familiar/compañero que posea una enfermedad mental, por favor, hazle saber que estás ahí para él o ella. Es más, quiero terminar el post con el mensaje final de Adri a sus lectores, sobre su crecimiento y desarrollo como persona:

“La próxima vez que vea a alguien triste, no voy a pedirle que sonría. Ni le voy a prometer que recuperarse está en sus manos. Si de verdad quiero ayudarle lo que haré es hacerle saber que, aunque no sea capaz de entender lo que le pasa, estaré ahí si me necesita.”
