It has been a good while since I've been out; I've not felt in the mood and whilst I've had opportunities I've either made excuses or said yeah sure but changed my mind at the last moment. It's not that I'm anti-social, more that I've not been in much of a mood to go out for whatever reason. I've also had a few things happening that required a good deal of focus so come the weekend I've preferred to hold the couch down with Cleo asleep on my lap [my cat] and a book or some other form of distraction. I've been content.
A few days ago an opportunity came up for a meal out in public and whilst my first thought was the default, no thanks, I'm good, I decided to say yes instead; The caveat being that I wanted to make no decisions on where to go...I'd just tag along.
Mexican food was chosen, a place called Montezuma's. It's not a fancy restaurant but that was ok by me. The food is decent and not too costly. Fair enough, I'll go. I had half-expected to cancel at the last minute and stay home but I didn't. I went, ate some food and had a reasonable couple hours eating Mexican food.
I kind of like Mexican food and never really know what to order and so invariably end up ordering the same thing all the time, tonights table included dips and corn chips, softshell tacos [one chicken and one beef], chorizo enchiladas and a salad thing. Of course there's some sangria to drink, not too much mind, but a glass or two goes down pretty well.
I'm of the belief that good company makes average food much better, not that the food was average. Well, in truth it was; nothing super-fancy but tasty. The conversation was interesting though and made a nice change from the Saturday evenings I've most recently experienced. There was a cool vibe in the restaurant and being out provided a nice opportunity to people-watch and, of course, engage in some person-to-person communication that wasn't work-related. Dinner was soon completed and I realised I was actually having a good time. On to stage two.
Chocolate Tree is a dessert café just slightly north of the city focused, predictably, on desserts and chocolate. Sure, they do other stuff during the day, light meals and all, but who cares right? Chocolate y'all. That sounded really enthusiastic I guess, but as a diabetic I need to be mindful of what I eat but...Yeah folks, I ate what you see in the picture. I think it was sugar free. Ok, probably not sugar free.
Don't ask me what it was called, I didn't order it myself. It's clearly a Belgian waffle though, with ice cream, some sort of biscuit I think called biscoff or some such thing, all drizzled with melted Belgian chocolate and sprinkles of honeycomb. Was good.
I arrived home and plonked myself on the couch after a shower. Cleo was a little indignant at first, I'd left her home and she had to punish me, but she soon sidled over and we had a cuddle. I thought about the evening and decided I'd had a pretty good time despite my initial feelings of not wanting to go. I suppose I'd have been just as happy to stay home but overall I'd not minded getting out into the world a little. It was a decent Mexaturday night and I reckon I'll be good to not have another like it for...A good while to come.
So what about y'all? What are you doing with your evening?
