There's a lot going on with the indoor cannabis garden after upgrading the lights with the new Phlizon LED panel yesterday.
I decided to try out these 3D printed low stress training clips. You can read more about them and how they were made in the linked post above on my 3D printing blog.
I'm utilizing the LST clips on the plants in early stage growth for a few reasons:
I generally use tie downs, but tie downs will not keep a consistent weight on the stalk, so this will be an interesting experiment to watch unfold. I think it will give the stalks a great deal of strength.
In the photo above, we can see the plant is already starting to bend up towards the light. Let's have a look at when I first put the clips on.
One of the larger plants was a good candidate for a clip as well.
I felt this one is just too pretty to mess with. I think this one is my favorite.
After about eight hours, the plants are quickly turning towards the light. That's a great sign that everything is good with these small cannabis plants.
There are some issues however.
It was a fleeting thought that I should not put the new Phlizon on full blast, but I did anyway, and also added some Cal-Mag.
Thinking back, I should have at least waited a day or two on the Cal-Mag, so that I could properly identify what is causing shock to the plants.
Now I have to guess between the Cal-Mag, and intense light.
I'm thinking it's the light though. They are definitely experiencing some shock.
Notice the droopy look of the leaves.
This could be a combination of a few things really. Initial shock from the new light, overwatering, and/or the Cal-Mag.
I think I need to chill out on the watering a little.
I reduced the lights to the minimum output currently, and will see what happens over the next 24 hours.
I really want to crank them up to max, but .. The plants need to get used to the light. I can slowly turn them up one day at a time when the plants start getting used to them.
Also, the plant is more droopy after adding the LST clip. I really stressed this plant, but cannabis is very resilient. It will likely bounce back in not much time at all, as long as the proper conditions are met for it to thrive.
The other one shows minimal signs of shock, but very minimal. Just a slight droop of the foliage. This one is strong.
In this photo we get another view on the LST clip, and how the plant reaches for the light.
The temperature is running 80 degrees with the lights dimmed, which is 8 degrees lower than the tent was holding at maximum output.
I really love these LED lights and feel very fortunate and grateful to have them, even though they are relatively cheap for how nice they are and what they are capable of. Not everyone is able to get their hands on this technology, so I remind myself of this everyday when I look into my amazing little grow tent.
