Since I was a small kid I have never really liked cats. Not that I had any of my own experience with them, but it was something that I picked up. Cats are bad. Cats are dangerous. Cats are terrible. So, now I own cats. Well, we rescued a couple of cats that were previously rescued. The person that took them in ended up not wanting them, so we took them in when they were only 6 weeks or so old.
It was a deal I made with my kids as they gave me the big sobby eyes and the "daddy can we keep them" speach. So the deal was if the farmer would let me keep my cats in his barn then we could keep them. Sure enough we kept them. So now they are two barn cats that don't really act like barn cats.
Most barn cats that I know are stand off ish. They don't really like to be around people, let alone want to cuddle with them. It turns out that cuddling is a side effect of my daughter taking great care of them. So they live in the barn full time. They have a nice house inside the barn, plenty of food, and a year round water source just outside the door. They are pretty well taken care of.
Here lately they have been wandering more into my shop. It started innocent enough. They would look around, mess around with stuff, rub on my leg, and then leave. One day I was trying to work on a knife and one of the cats wouldn't get out of my face. It isn't so bad when they come up and just watch what I am doing, but when they put the ol' eye of Sauron right in my face..that I can't handle. haha
So after that little run in I decided to remove them from where I was..sort of quickly, and I set him up on a box that is propped up toward the back of the shop. So he was still near me, he was up high, and most important his butthole wasn't in my face!
Now when they come it they still wander around, but they make their way up ontop of the boxes. I have an old hoodie sweatshirt up there for them to lay on. They cuddle up with each other and just hang out. They sleep through me running equipment, and then sit and watch me work.
It is kind of nice to look up and see an animal just watching me work. It makes me feel less alone out in the shop. It is also nice that they don't mind when I sing and dance along with the radio!
Thanks for sharing this highlight of my day. I hope you are having an awesome adventure!
Be well
