Yesterday was quite a homebody Sunday, but staying home doesn't necessarily mean it was quiet. Rather, we had quite a bit of domestic activity, especially regarding cleaning, and also a little bit of cat drama.

I think that when there are infants at home, there's a little bit of drama every day. Well, I don't have human children, but I grew up with several siblings and various dogs and cats, so I have experience, even if it's from a different perspective than a mother's. And currently, I feel like a cat mom.

There are discussions about everything on the internet lately, and one that reaches us the most—those of us who consume content related to pet care or funny home videos with little animals—inevitably, every time we go on social media, is whether it is wrong or not to treat or talk about our pets as if they were children.

We all have an opinion and a life experience that makes us take different stances. Personally, I agree that it's not right to humanize them, since trying to interact from an egocentric perspective, only taking into account how we humans think and feel, can blind us and prevent us from truly understanding the needs of our furry companions.

But in a home where there are no children, for all practical purposes, due to the responsibility, care, attention, time, and money invested in maintaining a little furry creature—whose measurable intelligence, according to experts, could be equated to that of a two-year-old child—it is, in effect, like having a small child at home, with the added difficulty of having to cross inter-species barriers to manage to understand them and have a healthy coexistence with them.

That's why having a cat or a dog is such a special experience, and you learn so much with them.

This past week, we, as parents of a disabled kitten, made a mistake. Nothing serious, but definitely somewhat annoying for her and for us. It turns out I had the brilliant idea of changing her litter to one that releases less dust, thinking of her well-being and ours, since we had been reading everywhere for a while that tofu litter is the best.

Something so basic that we should already know is that cats do not like sudden changes at all. But I got excited and had the impulse to clean the house, her litter boxes, and debut the brand new litter. Bad idea. Nothing smelled like what she considers her bathroom, the litter boxes stopped smelling like her pheromones, and the texture and smell of my fabulous purchase, tofu litter, surprised her in an unpleasant way because it was something totally unknown to her.

In short: I've spent three days continuously cleaning and looking for hidden pees or poops all over the house, and both she and I were tired and stressed.

We've already solved it and she is playful and in a good mood as always, and she finally managed to go to her "bathroom" normally. My boyfriend stopped by the store to buy the litter she used before and we put a layer of it on top of the tofu one, and we will continue mixing it like this until she gets used to it.

And why so much drama over some litter? Besides the fact that cats are quite particular about their routines, Navi has a neurological condition, because of which she is under observation, and for that reason, we haven't been able to operate to spay her yet, and these days coincided with the beginning of her heat. So my main source of stress wasn't the pee or the poop, but her heartbreaking cries of a cat in heat XD.

Everything has returned to normal and we are calm. The crying is also decreasing, and this morning when she used her litter box normally for the first time in all these days, I celebrated by giving her one of her delicious treats so she will associate that part of her routine with a positive and pleasant experience again. Yes, raising kittens also has its science.

All of the images in my posts are my personal photos, taken with my phone, unless otherwise stated, in which case I would provide a link to the original source.

Thanks for reading, dear hivers! I hope we meet again around here soon.

🍁 [ESP]

Y actualmente yo me siento mamá gatuna.
