Kythera is a small island. For those that like numbers, it covers an area of around 280 square km (a little more than 100 square miles) and it has 3.000 (more or less) people living in more than 30 villages, scattered all over the island. Nevertheless the diversity in this small place is extraordinary! From majestic beaches, to olive groves and from arid bushland, to villages lost in the forest, it has it all!
We visited it in September and I showed you in my previous post one of my favorite beaches. But driving only 15' minutes away, took us to a completely different scenery. Huge plane trees, running water and a wooden sign inviting us to a waterfall :)
The descent was very easy (I was looking back in the photo above) and totally charming. Old, abandoned houses, overgrown by a thriving vegetation and huge trees, made walking very pleasant and taking pictures very effortless!
Very soon we reached a building that seems to be a coffee shop, or a restaurant that is no longer in use, with a square made of concrete under the plane trees. Our dog and 
After a while we reached the waterfall. I had been there one more time, many years ago and I was looking forward to see it again. The first time I was there I had taken the best waterfall photograph of my portfolio but now an unpleasant surprise was expecting me. The waterfall wasn't there!
The unusually dry season, had limited the running water so much that there wasn't any water left to fall!
Despite my disappointment I still enjoyed my walk. The scenery is still magical and I promised myself that the next time I'll visit it in spring, when the water is running in abundance!
