Well not really a city, more like a town. Agios Nikolaos has a population of around 12.000 people but it is the biggest urban center of our region and capital of the east part of Crete. And some times we have to go there and even less times we have some extra time to walk around!
I started with a few details from the port, just to warm up :)
In the summer there are a lot of small touristic vessels that offer cruises near by, but now it is almost empty.
This small canal (picture below) connects the sea with the small lake that is the main touristic attraction of the town. The shore is totally occupied by taverns and coffee shops but now everything is closed for the winter so I focused on the calm water and the anchored boats.
At the one side of the lake, the land is much higher and there are staircases to go up. They are a little tiring but the view is absolutely rewarding!
The magical thing about this town is that when you are in the middle of it, there is sea at three out of the four directions. Only if you go west you will not find the sea. It is almost like a small island by itself :)
The next pictures are from the marina, at another part of the town but still on the seaside! I loved the fact that all those fancy sailboats were anchored next to the humble fishing boats!
And as the sun was setting down, it was time to return to the car and back home!
This is my contribution to the #wednesdaywalk challenge, created by @tattoodjay :)
All the pictures and the words are mine.
