Diagnosis: Osteoarthritis... my training diary entry from March 6 2026
(When we return from our holiday in a month, we'll go hiking in the local mountains again and enjoy nature. This photo was taken last summer on the Wendelstein mountain.)
Hi Actifitters,
yesterday I finally found out why I've had shoulder problems for so long. On the one hand, I'm glad I now know what's wrong, but on the other hand, osteoarthritis wasn't exactly the diagnosis I wanted.
The doctor also said that at 45, I was actually a bit too young for this diagnosis, but my genes apparently didn't know that. Both my mum and dad have also been affected by osteoarthritis.
It is what it is, and I have to make the best of it. Unfortunately, goals like doing 100 push-ups in a row or excessive pull-up training are now out of the question. Anything that puts too much pressure on my shoulder is history... what a shame!
Fortunately, besides cycling, there are countless other exercises I can do. I'll just have to reorient myself a bit. Besides, I have to say that I really enjoy cycling and the occasional hardships that come with it. So my priority will continue to be pedaling, as long as my knees cooperate.
Today I have a longer bike ride planned before I finally start packing my suitcase. Tomorrow at this time we'll already be at the airport waiting for our flight.
