I am finally able to start tilling the garden now that the weather has cleared up and warmed. Our soil is super porous so we never have standing water, but the soil is still a bit difficult to till if too moist. So every year I am forced to wait until the weather allows before tilling can commence. This year is a week later than last year but 2 weeks earlier than 2014... so it varies. I spread out a few cups of my Rootshield granules before I began so as to get them worked into the soil and hopefully begin populating the soil.

My view while tilling. I work the tiller from the side with one hand on the handle and the other on the gas tank. I have to push on the front end of the tiller in order for it to move forward and I need to push down on the handle to dig the tines deep. It is an actual full body work out. I will film a few passes in a bit to show my process.

20 minutes later I had 6 passes down and I had set my oldest to trying to find any Jerusalem Artichokes that were dug up with the tilling.

Moments later I found this monster buried in the garden. I thought I had the big rocks out of the garden, but apparently I was wrong. Another 20 minutes of digging and probing for more and I had them all up.

I'm happy the rock was near the edge of the garden. I have an issue when the rocks are buried in the middle of the garden since I have probed the soil extensively in search of rocks, so it makes me feel a bit better this one being on the edge.

I rolled the rock over to haul it away and noticed that I had dug up a heart rock. I'm really wishing it would give me another life, full health, or some other special item/power. What? I don't live in a video game? Damn it!

Now I have to go back out and fix the wheel pin that CONSTANTLY is breaking. I use nails, clips, pins, and bolts and EVERYTHING breaks. Frustrating to say the least. What happened to metal? Didn't it used to be strong?
