Looked out the screen door to see my cat hauling ass across the driveway from the garden with a snake dangling from his mouth. I yelled at him then bolted out the door and chased after him at which point he dropped the snake. I grabbed it up off the ground and it just sat calmly in my hands.
This is the first Racer (Coluber constrictor) I have found in the decade plus of living here!
The cat did give it a healthy bite mark and hopefully it didn't sustain much damage. I took it back into the garden and set it down next to a stack of pallets, gave it a little poke, and it bolted into the pile.
Not bad, this is the 4th snake I have found so far this year. Most years I am lucky to find 2 snakes so this is a banner snake year!
