Hello friends of the community, today I want to share an experience with you fixing my bicycle. Today early in the morning I was about to go out for a ride on my bike. I walked a few streets when suddenly the front wheel began to deflate. I thought the air valve was incorrectly adjusted, but to my surprise there was a very sharp wire embedded in the tire. I walked back to my house carrying the bicycle and the worst thing is that I had no material to repair it so I did the following.
Hola amigos de de la comunidad, hoy quiero compartir una experiencia con ustedes arreglando mi bicicleta. Hoy temprano por la mañana me disponía salir a pasear en mi bicicleta. Recorrí unas calles cuando de ponto la rueda delantera comenzo a desinflarse. Pensé que la válvula de aire estaba mal ajustada, pero para mi sorpresa al neumático se le había incrustado un alambre muy filoso. Regresé a mi casa caminando cargando la bicicleta y lo peor es que no tenía material para repararla asi que hice lo siguiente.
Process
The first thing I did was remove the front wheel and separate it from the rest of the bike to work better. The good thing about this bike is that it has parts that are very easy to remove, it was not necessary to use an adjustable wrench or tool since it has a system of levers on the axle of the wheel that enters and leaves by pressing, I pressed out and left easily.
Lo primero que hice fue sacar la rueda delantera y separarla del resto de la bicicleta para trabajar mejor. Lo bueno de esta bicicleta es que tiene piezas muy faciles de quitar, no fue necesario utilizar alguna llave ajustable u herramienta ya que cuenta con un sistema de palancas en el eje de la rueda que entra y sale haciendo presión, hice presión hacia afuera y salió con facilidad.
The next step is to remove the inner tube. For this we use plastic paddles to lift the flanges of the rims and remove the inner tube little by little. The moment I took out the inner tube I was very surprised because I found 2 small holes. But worst of all was a ghastly hole that I have no idea how it was made. I think the air chamber was beaten so it was giving way due to the air pressure. Not know what to do. Small holes were easy to repair, but this monster took time.
El siguiente paso es sacar la cámara de aire. Para eso utilizamos unas paletas de plástico para levantar las pestañas de las llantas y sacar la cámara de aire poco a poco. En el momento que saqué la cámara de aire me llevé una gran sorpresa porque encontre 2 agujeros pequeños. Pero el peor de todos era un hueco espantoso que no tengo idea de como se hizo. Creo que la cámara de aire estaba vencida por lo que fue cediendo por la presión del aire. No sabía que hacer. Los huecos pequeños fueron faciles de reparar, pero este monstruo me llevó tiempo.
To repair these holes I used scrap material. I improvised the patches with small pieces that I cut from an old air chamber that no longer worked. I cut them with precision and a reasonable size to cover the necessary well. With a coarse sandpaper I sanded the entire surface to clean it, as well as I sanded the surface of the air chamber where the holes were. To glue them I used carpentry glue. This glue is very good because it is not toxic to the material of the air chamber so there is no risk of cracking over time.
Para reparar estos agujeros utilicé material de desecho. Los parches los improvisé con pequeños retazos que corté de una vieja cámara de aire que ya no servía. Los corté con presición y de un tamaño razonable para cubrir bien lo necesario. Con una lija de grano grueso lijé toda la superficie para limpiarla, al igual lijé la superficie de la cámara de aire donde estaban los agujeros. Para pegarlas utilicé pegamento de carpintería. Este pegamento es muy bueno porque no es tóxico para el material de la cámara de aire por lo que no corre riesgo de agrietarse con el tiempo.
To cover the larger hole I used a larger piece of air chamber and abundant glue. I hoped it would dry really well, went through the same process of sanding the surfaces to clean, and the glue would stick more easily. To repair such a large hole, you should not abuse much thinking that if you put a bigger patch on it, the danger ends. You just have to measure well and use the glue. To let the glue dry well, I used about an hour. In this way each of the parts adheres better to each other.
Para tapar el agujero mas grande utilicé un pedazo de cámara de aire mas grande y abundante pega. Esperé que se secara muy bien, realicé el mismo proceso de lijar las superficies para limpiar y que el pegamento se adhiriera con más facilidad. Para reparar un hueco tan grande no se debe abusar mucho pensando que si le pones un parche mas grande se termina el peligro. Solo hay que medir bien y utilizar ien el pegamento. Yo para dejar secar bien el pegamento utilicé una hora aproximadamente. De esta manera cada una de las partes se adhiere mejor una con la otra.
We let about 3 hours pass for the bonding process to be better and then we proceed to put the inner tube back into the tire. We can help ourselves again with a plastic lever and little by little insert the tire flange inside the rim.
Dejamos pasar unas 3 horas para que el proceso de unión sea mejor y luego procedemos a meter de nuevo la cámara de aire dentro del neumático. Nos podemos ayudar otra vez con una palanca de plástico y poco a poco introducir la pestaña del neumático dentro de la llanta.
The last step is to mount the wheel back on the bike and blow it with a hand pump. We must fill it carefully so that we do not exceed the allowed pressure. These tires support a pressure of 100 PSI according to the size of the tire. That is the ideal pressure. We finish inflating and we will have the bicycle operational again.
El ultimo paso es montar la rueda de nuevo en la bicicleta y echarle aire con una bomba manual. Debemos llenarla con cuidado para que no nos pasemos de la presion permitida. Estas llantas soportan una presion de 100 PSI segun la medida del neumático. Esa es la presión ideal. Terminamos de inflar y ya tendremos la bicicleta operativa nuevamente.
On previous occasions I have not only repaired using old air chambers, I have also used eva coma, better known as foami. This material, although it seems incredible, is great and very durable and resistant and serves to cover gaps caused by sharp wires that we find on the road. As a last detail I made an adjustment to the brakes that were somewhat unbalanced and now my bike is ready to go out again. I hope you liked this and it will be useful to those who have bicycles, sometimes we cannot find the spare parts store open and we do not have spare parts in our house. So this is a quick, simple and long-lasting solution.
En ocasiones anteriores no solo he reparado utilizando cámaras de aire viejas, tambien he utilizado coma eva, mejor conocida como foami. Este material aunque parezca increible es genial y muy duradero y resistente y sirve para tapar huecos causados por alambres filosos que nos encontramos en la carretera. Como ultimo detalle hice un ajuste a los frenos que estaban algo desbalanceado y ahora si mi bicicleta está para salir de nuevo. Espero esto les haya gustado y les sirva a quienes tienen bicicletas, a veces no encontramos la tienda de repuestos abierta y no tenemos repuestos en nuestra casa. Asi que esta es una solucion rápida, sencilla y duradera.
