Hello, dear friends; I hope you’re having a wonderful day. Today, I’d like to share a drawing I created of the Terminator, featuring the legendary Arnold. This piece illustrates the character's dual nature: his human camouflage used for infiltration, contrasted with the metallic skeleton that transforms him into a terrifying, lethal killing machine. I created the drawing on black cardstock, using white charcoal and white acrylic paint to capture finer details and highlights. Here is a step-by-step look at how I made it.

The drawing could be said to be divided into two parts: the human half, featuring Arnold's face, and the metallic part. I find it easier to start with the human side, so I begin there by creating a simple sketch that outlines key features—such as the mouth, the nose, and the eye area where he wears dark glasses.

Next is the other half—the metallic skull, which catches the light rays. This part is a bit more challenging; although no shading is needed to create volume, the lines must be positioned to reflect the surrounding highlights. When viewed as a whole, you can see the form taking shape.

In the order I started the sketch, I begin with Arnold's face, which is easier for me, although it takes more time, to achieve a noticeable volume. I apply the first layers of white charcoal to the forehead, outlining the dark glasses, and then proceed to paint the nose and the lips.

In the second step, after applying an initial layer of color, I begin to build up volume. The trick here is similar to traditional drawing with a pencil on white paper: where we want the light to be most intense, we need to press the colored pencil tip harder against the paper. Conversely, where we want a shadow to appear, we press the pencil gently against the cardstock. We need to experiment with this technique until the desired effect begins to emerge.

Finally, I paint the metal skeleton using a mixed-media approach—combining white charcoal and white paint—to better capture the way light gleams off the metal. I build up the details by adding lines and dots. I then introduce a light blue tone to create that metallic blue sheen that always surrounds the Terminator. Lastly, I add a touch of red to the electronic eye, accentuating its terrifying stare.

FINAL WORK

What do you think of the final result? Another detail I forgot to mention is the dark lens on the left side; even though it lacks color and is just empty space, the surrounding area had to be drawn and defined precisely so the black lens effect would come across clearly. The same applies to the small lines I drew for the human side of the face—a way to briefly suggest the facial features. Terminator 1 and 2 are science fiction classics and cult films; nearly 40 years later, the effects in the second movie still look amazing—a testament to a time when films were made through hard work and creativity. That’s all for now; I hope to be back very soon. Best regards to everyone.
