This is a bit of Friday photo dump. Firstly, the calm before the storm. We've had, as I keep on saying, a dry winter - even though we were just about rained out at last week's market. It's not good. That greying sky held lots of promise but it didn't. It was literally full of bluster just heralded almost gale force winds that got into our heads and made us batten down the hatches for nothing. Just cold, cold air.
While we were waiting in an-ti-ci-pa-tion, The Husband with our gardener spread compost over our lawn - to dress it and level it - and re-aligned our paths. This to follow the natural path that people walk to our kitchen door. Very few people follow the other path to come in the "front door". When we moved here, I didn't want people coming in the "back door", let alone the kitchen door. I did want a gate on the other side of the house that would lead to what is actually the front door. Nearly 12 years later, that's not happened and I'm now resigned to the fact that it never will. One of the happy adjustments to country living.
Mother Ursula - my sourdough starter - is doing well. So well, she grew out of her frock and blew her her stack ahead of starting both the rolls and the loaves this week. It's counter-intuitive because, as I keep on saying, it's cold and, more than that, I've not been as diligent about her daily feeding.
Perhaps she thrives on neglect?
As usual, most of the day was in my "other" office, slicing, kneading and potting.
This is just some of the day's work product - a vegan French Onion soup and a fresh batch of cottage cheese.
Finally, chicken and spinach pot pie for supper. The filling was deliberate leftover chicken with the spinach and onion cooked the night before for another meal.
With that, Friday was done!
Oh, and finally, for those wondering what happened to Bill:
Having delivered the job I get this feedback:
I am halfway through your version - you have done magic!
Seems I did manage to tame him. For the moment. Happy client and invoice paid makes for a happy me, too!
Until next time, be well
