Yesterday was a public holiday and the anniversary of democracy in South Africa. For the first time, I think, in as many years, I didn't give it a passing thought. There are other reasons I won't go into, now, but the main one is because I have a two day kitchen stint ahead. The other is because I wanted to complete a job. And invoice. And then stay out of the work office until Tuesday. Monday is another public holiday.
But first
Being Wednesday and the grocery shops not closed, the usual Wednesday regimen prevailed. Also, not only were guests arriving at a property I manage, but new sun shades installed. I had to photograph them for the owner, our social media and our online presences...
I would have preferred afternoon shots, but as guest were to be in residence by 2pm, that has to wait and these will have to do. For the time being.
Then
Then it was back to the work office and before I settled in, someone on the village Facebook page was offering ripe, picked olives for the processing. Needless to say, I jumped and made an arrangement for collection before settling in to work.
Job done
The job's done: ahead of schedule. I try to under promise and over deliver. I don't always succeed, but the planets aligned and I got it right. I sent off the final of three bits and prepared the invoice with a bit of an update and asked about - I hate the phrase - the way forward.
Upshot
The first piece, submitted over a week ago, submitted to the corporate client (I am contracted to their digital agency), was accepted. Not only without a revert, but accepting the additional and somewhat new angle to the content. The agency has accepted the other two. Also with no changes and sent them on.
And then, there's more
In less than an hour of submitting the invoice, the money was in the bank with a reply to my email that included:
It has been terrific working with you, to say the least. And on that note, yes we would love to connect next week on the way forward.
So, my work day ended with a happy customer, money in the bank and a scheduled meeting to discuss the next step. On Tuesday.
Almost the end...
Needless to say, I was thrilled to the back teeth. We had already decided to support our friend rocking his wok at the local, but after that really good day, it felt like just the what the doctor ordered.
On the way, though, an olive collection. We were bidden to join the givers for sundowners. It's the first time in 10 years of acquaintance, and almost daily street conversations that the four of us had sat down together. He walks their border collie, Arrow, past our house at least once a day. He and Pearli have a special bond.
We left not just with olives, but also with catnip and other slips for the garden.
This was how the day really ended. It felt good. It was good. And in good company with good conversation.
Until next time, be well

If this post might seem familiar, it's because I'm doing two things:
- re-vamping old recipes. As I do this, I am adding them in a file format that you can download and print. If you download recipes, buy me a coffee. Or better yet, a glass of wine....?
- and "re-capturing" nearly two years' worth of posts.
- From Wordpress, I use the Exxp Wordpress plugin. If this rocks your socks, click here or on on the image below to sign up.
