A five minute freewrite, written using mariannewest@mariannewest's prompt

The wedding invitation fell through the letterbox the day after I spoke to Libby.

I left it on the floor for an hour or so, hoping that it might go away by itself, or perhaps the mouse that kept eating my potatoes and shitting all over my kitchen surfaces might eat it.

But as I left to go to the bar that evening it was still there so I stooped down and grabbed it. I shoved it into my back pocket and headed out the door.

Jerry was due to open up, but as usual, he was late. I stood outside the bar like a spare part, scrolling through my phone trying not to think about the card in my pocket. But in the end, it was useless and I pulled it out and ripped open the invitation.

It was handwritten. I recognised her handwriting and my hand shook as I began to read.

The wedding was to be held in the castle overlooking the ocean.

The same castle I had proposed to Libby all those years ago.
