Yay! It’s the weekend!!! So that can really only mean ONE THING!!
It’s time for the #weekendfreewrite!
Each week @mariannewest gives three #freewrite prompts and you have to write for five minutes using each prompt - but no cheating and looking at the next prompt UNTIL you have finished with the first one!
You can find this week’s first prompt here: https://steemit.com/freewrite/@mariannewest/weekend-freewrite-6-29-2019-part-1-the-first-sentence

The sound had finally moved away from him. He sat very still, holding his breath, trying to listen above the thump-thump-thump of his heart.
Yes, he was sure of it.
He waited a couple more minutes and then carefully and slowly opened the door of the cupboard in which he was hiding. Just a crack. He put his ear to the gap and listened and then opened it wider and took a look. It had gone. Whatever it was, it was not out there making that schnuffelling noise.
He opened the cupboard wide and poked his head out. The kitchen was empty. He crawled out of the cupboard and recoiled as he put his hand in something hot and sticky. He looked at it. It was yellowy-green. It reminded him of when he had had that chest infection last year and his mother had taken him to the doctors to get antibiotics when he had coughed up something that colour.
He sniffed at his hand. It smelt wrong. Like something was dying, decaying.

The wolf would only have to wait for her.
He wiped the gunk off his hand onto his trousers, and wished he hadn't thought about that scary movie he had watched with Brian.
"I would call the cops," Brian said, as the girl in the dark house in the movie decided to go outside to find out what the noise was. "The wolf would only have to wait for her out there and then she's toast."
The wolf - or rather werewolf - in the movie did indeed make breakfast out of the girl. Jay still had bad dreams about it. Although he didn't tell Brian about that.
Was that what this is? He wondered. It this just a bad dream. For a moment he hoped that it was. Perhaps he would wake up sweating, a scream in his throat and - to his shame as he was almost nine years old - urine soaking his PJs. But he knew that this was no dream.
"Dreams can come true, you know," his aunt Becky told him once. Jay thought she was trying to encourage him to try harder so his good dreams could come true.
But if good dreams could be true then surely bad ones could too?
…
Jay thought about climbing back into the cupboard and waiting for help. Wait for someone to find him.
But what if the someone who found him was the schnuffeler? The creature with the stinking drool and the heavy breathing?
No. It might not be safe out there, but he didn't want to sit in that cupboard and wait to be made into toast.
He pushed open the kitchen door and crept towards the front door. He refused to look into the front room, where he was fairly sure his mother lay in a pool of her own blood, her throat ripped out by the creature. When Jay had found her, responding to her screams, she was already dead.
She had written four words on the carpet - the carpet she was so proud of and was so angry with him when he spilled soda on it last week - using her own blood.
He Knew My Name.
Jay didn't know who he was, or how he knew his mother's name, and he didn't want to find out. As Jay reached the front door, his hand on the knob ready to twist he felt warm breath on the back of his neck and heard one word.
"Jay."

As usual, I used themostdangerouswritingapp.com to write each five-minute freewrite (and then tidied it up a bit in google docs afterward):
