She sat in her usual spot in the Sail Boat café. The table by the window at the back, her back to the wall, a clear view of the door. She occasionally would look out at the view outside.
It was too cold to swim but there were people out there anyway. She shook her head and took a sip of hot chocolate. She knew where she would rather be.
Every time the door opened her eyes would flick to it, her heart would thump harder and she would hold her breath as she waited to see who was entering. She would look down as soon as she had seen it wasn't him, hoping she had not made eye contact with the person long enough for them to think it was an invitation to say hello.
Or worse, come over and ask if they could join her.
"Fuck off!" she wanted to say every time someone had the nerve to invade her space. "Can't you see I want to be left alone?"
But she never said those things. She would blush, say "feel free" and then finish her drink and leave.
