It is no coincidence.
She pauses beside the flowers
I followed her
She stalks the spring
She hunts for flower buds
And I, her poems
I dream of reading her verses printed on elegant paper
I no longer watch over her sleep, nor do I wait attentively for the next breath before drifting back to sleep myself.
But I do not forget the feeling of when, from her crib,
she would reach her tiny hand through the bars of the railing,
grasp one of my fingers in hers, and we would both fall asleep.
I no longer read her stories, nor do I figure out how to answer those awkward questions from back when she first learned to read.
Now, I am the one asking questions, and she translates—in a way I can grasp—the things that elude my understanding whenever I refuse to embrace the modern world.
A walk shared together, a moment to cherish the gift of being a dad.
With all my love to @isauris, my daughter.
