A bus I didn't board, yet it transported me to another city. In an instant, I crossed the continent.
The afternoon was a bit gray due to the overcast skies, the air was a little chilly for my liking, and I didn't encounter many other people, nor did I recognize the tourist I was waiting for on the bus. As I took the photos, the QR code activated, which I ignored. I continued on my way, leaving behind the memory of my beloved Cumaná, a place with many affections and conflicting feelings.
What could a tourist bus possibly have in common with a city where the power and internet go out every day, where there hasn't been running water for months, and which suffers from all the same hardships as the rest of the country?
A city I consider my own, among other things because my parents rest beneath its soil, if the Palo practitioners haven't looted their tomb. In it I started a family and my children were born; in it I built a house and a life.
But the miasma consumed hopes, and my children, like so many millions defeated by the evils of the century, took the road to the border. A flight in search of the denied opportunity.
And even we old folks follow in the footsteps of the young.
The list of evils caused in a quarter of a century can be compared to those caused by the cruelest wars, and the devastation continues.
Amid this unimaginable scene, the authorities decided to inaugurate a bus service similar to the one I encountered yesterday in Buenos Aires.
Painted blue, because they want to erase the memory of the bright red. A detested color, so beautiful, for being the flag they now want to change to continue perpetrating what has a name, but I refuse to speak it. Selfishness, envy, resentment, cowardice, betrayal, dishonesty, and all the evils and aberrations born from that scam that they intend to perpetuate with any alliance they may need.
Two years and a bit more since a farewell with the deceptive promise of returning in January—some January! The nostalgia grows, but the distance grows even more with each event that silences and deafens hope. Because, of course, hope never dies.

The grater and the small grater as a banner. One for the cheese and the other for the garlic.
