Hello hivers
Let's talk about food and some of the traditional Albanian dishes in the country when I have born ...
1 – Ferges – Summer Stew
source
Ferges is without a doubt one of Albania's most traditional meals. The key ingredients are tomato sauce, cottage cheese, green peppers, and garlic.
The major reason this meal is referred to as a summer stew is that many Albanians like to eat it after it has cooled.
Waiting for this meal to cool down for around 2-3 hours is the ideal way to consume it. This thickens the sauce and helps the components stand out more.
Ferges is typically served with bread. I normally eat it with toasted bread dipped in the dish.
The dish is not a common menu item in Albanian restaurants, although it may be found at country restaurants that serve traditional fare.
2 – Byrek – Albanian Pie
source
Albanian pies continue to be one of the most popular traditional meals. People enjoy them since they can carry the pies with them for a fast supper or snack on the go.
There are several filler materials that may be used in a byrek. These include beef, spinach and cheese, onions and tomatoes, and the most popular, cottage cheese.
Not only can this meal be made with various contents, but it may also be made in a variety of forms. This is entirely dependent on the place in which you attempt it.
Byrek is typically accompanied by greek yogurt or dhalle.
Byrek is typically eaten after the main meal by the elder generation. Others consume it as a fast snack or as a finishing dish.
Albanians still cook byrek at home, but they can also be found at local restaurants and businesses that specialize in these pies.
3 – Tarator – Cold Yoghurt Appetize
This is a delicious appetizer that Albanians typically consume before a meat-based entrée.
It is typically served during the summer since it is fairly cool when served. Greek yogurt, cold water, shredded cucumber, and salt are used to make this meal.
Because the appetizer has the consistency of a soup, it is customary to serve it in a bowl.
It tastes a lot like the traditional Albanian drink dhalle. This is why many tourists are taken aback when they see tarator served in a bowl.
This appetizer is generally enjoyed by the elder age, as the younger generation prefers dhalle since it is more convenient to eat.
4 – Tavë Kosi – Baked Lamb or Chicken in Yoghurt
source
Chicken cooked in yogurt is a popular traditional meal in Albania, often eaten for lunch.
Elbasan tava is a common name in the Balkans. It was called for the Albanian city where the dish originated.
Tave Kosi is traditionally cooked with lamb meat, however, some Albanians use chicken.
The yogurt is combined with rice and eggs and cooked alongside the meat.
This meal has a distinct flavor. The baked yogurt has a soft texture and a somewhat sour flavor, which is perfectly balanced by the meat, giving the dish its luscious meaty flavor.
5 – Speca te Mbushur me Oriz – Bell Peppers Stuffed with Rice
source
Stuffed bell peppers are a popular local delicacy. They are frequently offered across Albania and may be found at countryside restaurants that serve traditional meals.
The meal consists of stuffed green bell peppers with rice. The actual recipe varies depending on how it was passed down.
Rather with only rice, some Albanians add minced lamb meat or tomatoes. The filled peppers are then roasted and served hot.
This meal is served with Greek yogurt, feta cheese, or dhalle. Adding chili peppers or black pepper to this meal is also popular among Albanians since the hot sensation enhances the food.
These are some of my favorite dishes, as time goes on I will show more of Albanian traditional dishes till then I wish you all the best and healthy life.
